Staff were great Advantages: food Disadvantages: crowed people I took a lot of searching on the Internet to find this hotel, and I must say that at furst, I was put of by the price, but after staying there, I can say that it was the right choice. Located in central London, this hotel offers a wide variety of facilities, with the rooms being more than large, including and en-suite, and double beds. Staying in London - City Inn Advantages: proximity to centre, excellent rooms Disadvantages: Bar tab in the morning When booking a hotel in London for the first time, it's hard to know where to book. We booked this one knowing it was close to the Tate and also to Westminster (the clue was in the name). We arrived on a Friday evening and were pleasantly surprised that the street outside looked very safe and that parking was free. Also no congestion charge! On arrival, our bags were taken and after check in the porter showed us our room. It was a fair size and ... ...TV, desk with a leather chair and a very large double bed. The bathrooms consisted of both bath and shower and the toiletries were made by the White Company - a decent brand! The hotel room was air conditions with a control ont eh wall to change the setting. Also there was a mini-bar, although a little bit on the pricy side! Riverbank Park Plaza - hotel is cheap and convenient for West End Advantages: Cheap if you get a discount, very convenient for West End Disadvantages: Rooms not ready, facilities that didn't work, requests that got lost, wrong keys for room The Riverbank Park Plaza is a mid-price four-star hotel located on London's Embankment, about 10 minutes walk (with heavy suitcase) from Vauxhall and 20 minutes from Waterloo. It is a comfortable hotel with plenty of lifts, which are definitely needed if you find yourself on the seventh floor. This is not a cheap part of the world to be staying in, and the prices here reflect that. However, if you book ages in advance, then you may be lucky like ... ...in July 2009 and the rooms cost about £80 per night. To get this deal, we booked several months in advance and found a special offer which was valid if we booked two consecutive nights. According to their website, the current discounted price is about £110 per night. The hotel itself had many facilities; sadly we did not have time to appreciate the gym. Just about on the right track Advantages: Easy to get to, on-site and nearby parking, close to Euston station, high speed internet access in room Disadvantages: Expensive parking, very small rooms, no Gordons Gin in the bar ...they had gone. The Thistle Euston was found on our behalf, at a rather steep £120 B&B it was this or nothing. Now I've stayed in a few Thistle hotels, and their quality does seem to vary somewhat, so it was with some trepidation that I set off on the 200 mile journey. LOCATION & ACCESS This hotel, as its name suggests, is literally a couple of hundred yards from Euston Station, and about 10 minutes walk from Euston ... ...the front of the London Thistle therefore is very welcoming, more reminiscent of an opulent 4 star outlet rather than its proclaimed 2 stars, the concierge are on hand to assist with luggage and parking.. There is ample on-street metered parking, free until 830am, and there is a small compact car-park in the basement of the hotel. Stay again, not likely Advantages: Hyde Park conferences Disadvantages: cost decor rooms and services The Royal Lancaster is a Hotel that overlooks Hyde Park and is a common venue for conferences and the like. At a basic rate of about £250 a night it certainly can only be the conference centre for very major players in the business world. I recently had the displeasure of staying there and I am only glad that someone else footed the bill. I had a basic room with twin beds and a television, a small bathroom and a minibar. There were no tea or coffee ... ...I thought never mind, after a few bevies I would be OK, but even several drinks could not numb the discomfort of both the beds in my room, and the shower was cool at 3 am when I finally staggered into my room. The meal we had as a conference meal was pleasant enough but breakfast was a little stingy in portions and the fresh fruit had seen better days.
