A Night at the Hoxton
Review of Hoxton Hotel, London by
mynameisrui
Advantages: Great location, friendly staff
Disadvantages: none
We recently stayed in the Hoxton Hotel a few weeks ago after getting it in one of their £1 sales (I'll come on to that later) and we loved every minute of it!
The hotel itself is still fairly new and calls itself an 'Urban Lodge'. It only opened in late 2006 and for a long time was booked up solid due to a lot of good reviews from the press and customers who managed to get a room there. It is located just by Old Street station with exit 3 being ... ...3 months of so the Hoxton hotel has a £1 sale where they release 5 rooms per night at £1 to be booked over a 3 month period. For example, they had a sale in April where you could book rooms between 1 May - 31 July. They only have 500 rooms available so you need to be quick. They recently had another sale for 1 August - 31 October and all the rooms sold out in about 20 minutes. At the same time as the £1 sale, they also offer a further 500 rooms at ...

Thistle Marble Arch
Review of Thistle Marble Arch, London by
meryll83
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: The price it would have been without the special rate!
The location of this hotel was great, right in the city centre at Marble Arch, and as with most London hotels, only a short walk to a tube station.
The lobby looked quite grand and you travel up on escalators to get to the check in area.
We asked about an upgraded room when we checked in, as I'd read free upgrades were common at the time, but the receptionsit was quite non-plussed and said we'd have to pay extra for this - we left it.
The room ... ...be well cleaned other than a sock that was hanging on the inside door handle! That did cause us to wonder if the room had actually been cleaned at all, or if it was an oversight. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and didn't actually mention this, although in hindsight we probably should have done!
It was a bit of a trek from the lift to our room, but we didn't really mind this.
Breakfast was really good, an all you can eat buffet style, and ...

Berners Hotel, London
Review of Berners Hotel, London by
meryll83
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Condition of the Room and Corridors
The location of this hotel was good and breakfast was nice. The rooms were quite small and the floorboards in the room and the corridors creaked an awful lot.
I wasn't sure how clean the room was, maybe due to the decor, it had a dusty, musty kind of appearance.
The tiling behind the toilet handle was all cracked and the bath wasn't the cleanest I've seen.
We booked the hotel on a special reduced rate and I'm glad we did, as this was no four star ...

PERFECT SETTING FOR THE COLNEY FOX
Review of Innkeeper's Lodge, St Albans by
RICHADA
Advantages: Location. Pub Ambiance. Parking. Breakfast.
Disadvantages: Dirty En-Suite. Old Bed. Tatty Room.
WHY DID WE BOOK THE INNKEEPER'S LODGE St ALBANS? A.K.A THE COLNEY FOX VINTAGE INN
A slightly complicated set of factors this time - indeed this is the first hotel in which we have stayed south of Watford Gap in very many years. Living in Brighton and attending the Company Car in Action event at Millbrook, just south of Bedford, we usually set out from home at 5.30am in order to be there for gates open at 9.00am.
I owed myself a couple of days off ... ...envelope, following our last, disastrous, Innkeeper's Lodge experience in Litchfield before Christmas, we had a complimentary "stay one night free" voucher.
Looking at the list of available Inkeeper's Lodges in the area, the choice was not a difficult one, a Toby Inn at Bedford, or the much more historic and attractive looking Vintage Inn at London Colney, just to the south of St Abans.
'Oh dear' I hear you cry; 'wasn't that Lodge at Lichfield ...

Euston Ibis - a disappointment!
Review of Ibis London Euston, London by
andycrowley
Advantages: Cleanliness; pleasant main hotel and rooms.
Disadvantages: Apalling catering and service arrangements.
We booked the London Euston Ibis for a one night stay at the end of May. We had previously stayed at many Ibis hotels in several countries on mainland Europe and had always been delighted with our experiences.
However, our first stay in a UK Ibis was a different experience altogether.
The hotel itself and our room could not be faulted.
However, where this hotel fails miserably is in its standards of service and its catering arrangements. Despite ... ...one pre packed portion of English Cheddar! The "English" breakfast option was an undescribable egg-like concoction and a platter of extremely greasy and foul tasting sausages!
Sorry London Euston Ibis but you were a huge disappointment and in our experience, you do no favours to the Ibis brand overall. ...
