A cheap hostel in London
Advantages: cheap rooms in london, good location Disadvantages: loud, staff not friendly
We stayed at the Clink Hostel for 3 nights in May. Rooms are very reasonable priced and you have a choice between -single/double/triple en suite by room -dorms from 4 to 16 beds both en suite or not Booking is possible on www.clinkhostel.com and hostelworld.com - I heard it's also possible to do it via phone. Booking was quick and easy. The location close to Kings Cross is great. Within Zone 1/2 on the underground it is easily reachable. At King's ... ...Metropolitan Line (Dark Red), Circle Line (Yellow) and Hammersmith and City Line (Pink). From the tube station to the hostel it's a 5min walk. WE found the hostel easy to find and the location quite central. The quick connection between King's Cross and Camden town was a huge plus point. Plus points: -free walking tour of the city. Everyday at 10am in English and Spanish -free breakfast (continental) -free bed linen - towels have to be paid for -lockers ...

Not really smart being a sauna inside!
Advantages: Cheap, provides privacy curtains on the bunkbeds Disadvantages: Very warm inside like a sauna! Poor customer services! Expensive storage
Smart Russell Square This place is around the corner from Russell Square, barely 100 yards walk. When approaching it, it isn't obvious that this is a hostel as it has NHS signs everywhere which made us panic in case we were walking into the wrong house and end up embarrassing ourselves! Luckily, it was the right place and finding the reception was simple. The check-in was very easy; we showed them our E-tickets with 2 reserved beds and paid £10 each ... ...an utter bargain! They handed us our linens for the duvet and pillow. I enquired about towels; they had towels for hire for £5. I was feeling a bit cheap and offered to use the dirty towels they had in the laundry basket! Luckily, the lady offered to sneak in an extra bed linen that I could use to dry myself! We had to pay £10 each a security fee for damage or loss of linens so that if you turn up in the morning, and someone has stolen your linen, ...

Home Base for Traveling with a Grandchild
Advantages: Comfortable, clean, pleasant ambience, elbow room Disadvantages: Lacks many traditional hotel facilities and services, such as room service and baggage storage
...trip planner, I selected the New Linden, a small hotel straddling Bayswater and Notting Hill, not far north of Kensington Gardens. The location was handy for buses and the tube, easily facilitating our forays around and about London.
In the end, that choice came down to space and price. I wanted a space that would provide both our grandson and us with an opportunity for privacy, and I wanted to do so without paying the usual London prices for a ... ...of our quad.
The New Linden is listed on various hotel sites at 2, 3, or 4 stars. Take your pick. I venture to approximate 3 stars based on its lack of urban hotel facilities. In the final analysis, however, it’s the experience that counts. Based on our experience, we would happily return to this charming hotel. It combines convenience with value for money, and we left with happy memories. Who could ask for more? ...

Ibis Euston - good deals to be had
Advantages: Good location, not too noisy, good value if on offer Disadvantages: Slow check in
...for a double room at Ibis Euston on a Saturday in late November. The standard rate advertised outside the hotel is £129 so this represents a good saving. Although we were traveling into and out of Kings Cross we were happy enough to stay at Euston as the hotel is right beside Euston mainline and tube stations and only a ten minute walk from Kings Cross/St. Pancras. There’s a handy little short cut from the main station concourse onto Melton Street ... ...to carry. Ibis Euston compares favourably with other branches of the chain I have stayed in. The rooms are basic but comfortable and I was impressed with the standard of cleanliness. It’s a useful location for several mainline train stations and only a twenty minute walk from the west end if you prefer not to use the bus or underground. There’s very little in the way of additional facilities but chances are if you’re a tourist in London you aren’t ...

Only One Towel? No Wonder The King's Cross...
Advantages: Cheap and central Disadvantages: Bit noisy, bit grimy in places
...a room in this cheapie Travelodge for a too-good-to-be-true £35, turning our mini break into a bargain of a weekend. I hadn't stayed in any London Travelodges before, but the city is crawling with them, and my first tip is to make a note of both the name and address of where you are staying. Walking from Euston this is the second one you'll come to (the other is directly next to the station) but we were coming in the other direction from a brief ... ...but none of the usual Travelodge bedspreads / throws. I actually preferred this: I hate dubious, shiny throws of the kind you get in American motels as I always wonder how frequently they change them. However it did seem unusual to be sitting straight on your quilt in a hotel, though with no other soft seating on offer there was little choice. There were no bedside tables, but we did have bedside lights and bedside controls for the main light, which ...
