Advantages good quality hotel
Disadvantages Almost suburbia
We had not stayed at the Marriott in Maida Vale before and so were a little apprehensive when we booked online for a Saturday night. We need not have have worried, the hotel was the usual Marriott 4* standard - great to excellent.
We had booked an 'arrive late, stay late' package for £92.00 plus VAT including breakfast for two - the cheapest internet rate available, and so didn't quite know what to expect. Check in was after 8.00pm, check out 6.pm. We arrived just after 4, no problem parking in the hotel car park and asked whether our room was ready. It wasn't but the reception did all the check in procedures so that all we had to do later was collect the room key. The concierge took our bags for safe keeping as well.We were late getting back, after 11.00pm but our room key was waiting and we discovered a room allocated on the Executive floor - exclusive access to the Executive lounge with tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks available! A bottle of complimentary wine in the room and a king size bed 6ft wide!! Loads of freebies in the bathroom too.
We had a great nights sleep - my wife said it was the most comfortable hotel bed she had ever slept in and no we hadn't drunk the wine!!Breakfast the next morning was served until 11.00am allowing a trip to the pool for a swim before breakfast. Breakfast itself was great - 5 friut juices to choose from, cooked English if you wanted it, smoked salmon if you didn't and omelettes cooked to order. As much tea or coffee as you wanted to drink. I'm sure every member of staff in the restaurant said good morning.
And we had the whole day in the West End - returning to the hotel just before 6 to freshen up and check out.At check out I discovered they had not charged for the parking (a little pricey at £17.00 per day) and when I told them the reply came back "our problem, sir".
All in all a great night and good value for money - the staff were great, pleasant and welcoming - nothing too much trouble. One slight drawback though is that it is 2 or 3 miles from the Centre and so taxi, bus or tube is required to get to the West End but don't let that stop you.
