Me and my husband stayed at Marriott Marble Arch Hotel for our Wedding Anniversary,(Bonfire Night) we stayed from 4th - 6th November 2006 as i wanted to go on the London Eye this year as i thought we would get a good view of the fire works.
The hotel is of a very high standard and is kept well maintained, although we felt it was expensive for where it is situated compared to other hotels.
The bedrooms are very tastefully decorated and are quite roomy compared to other hotels. It had a queen size bed which is about the size of a double bed plus half again, the mattress was soft and comfortable (which i like) no good if you like a firm one and the pillows were large and fluffy, it is the best bed i have slept in i had a thoroughly good night sleep. The room also had a shower/bath and a sofa, TV with alarm clock and telephone, iron and hairdryer, the Wardrobe space was plentiful with about 10 hangers in total.
It is a 5 - 10 minute walk to the nearest tube station which doesn't sound too bad until you have walked all the way down Oxford steet because the tube stations are undergoing maintenance work the weekend we were there.
If i were to go again i would choose a hotel closer to the attractions i wanted to visit as i felt we were a little out of the way compared with the Marriott Grovsner Hotel which is situated at the top of Oxford Street.
Breakfast in the hotel was included in the price of our room, which is the only reason we went to be honest as we found the morning service very slow for example we were sat at a table in the bar area as the restaurant was full but even after we were seated i then had to go follow the waiter to get a knife while i was doing this my breakfast was going cold. Also if they seat you in the bar area this is not a non-smoking area so you have people around you smoking while you are trying to eat and being a non smoker this isn't very pleasant.
On our first evening we decided to head back to our hotel early (around 11pm) and have a last drink before going to bed only to find when we arrived back at the hotel everything was closed, when we asked where we could get a drink we were told to use room service which as it was expensive decided to give it a miss and retire early.
The hotel reception we found very helpful as when we asked for directions to the places of interest to us, they provided a map and circled where we needed to be and which tubes we needed to be on, and on the day of leaving they contacted Kings Cross station to confirm if there were lockers available for us to store our luggage for the day enabling us to make full use of our last day in the city without heavy luggage.
The Hotel offered other services including laundry, dvd rental, room service and internet access and a concierge on hand. We also had full access to a gym and small swimming pool, it was large enough to do about a width and you were given clean towels to use while using the pool.
All in all a nice hotel not quite where we expected so if you want to be away from the tourist areas it is perfect but if you want easy access to areas such as Covent Garden and Leicester Square i would not recommend.TIPS (learn from my mistakes)
Make sure you know what times the tubes stop on an evening
Check the hotel bar opening times
Wear comfortable shoes as there are lots of stairs in some tube stations
Oxford street is longer than you think when walking back to your hotel in heels!
You can use Tesco vouchers which makes it better value

Advantages: Nice and comfortable hotel, attractive, helpful staff, good location. Disadvantages: Rooms quite expensive (although I didn't pay the full price), over-priced drinks!
