Very Tempting Thai
Review of Busaba, London by girlgrey

Advantages: Great food and vibrant atmosphere
Disadvantages: On this occassion rude seating waiter

I visited this Thai restaurant with 2 friends on a wet summers evening. It is well located in Soho on Wardour Street, just a 5min walk down from Oxford Street and probably 10mins from Tottenham Court Road Tube. The outside is a dark wood affair with large windows so you can see all the diners eating lovely looking food while you wait. Due to this restaurants popularity, it is customary for a large queue to build outside this restaurant and you may ...
...On Arrival So, having arrived with one of my friends at about 7pm the restaurant was already in full swing but luckily there was no queue. The waiter on the door said there would be a short wait for the table and would try to get us seated as soon as possible. At this point I said we were waiting for another friend to join us in 10 minutes and his entire demeanour changed. He said he couldn't seat us until all the party were present and could we ... original greasy spoon
Review of Borough Cafe (London) by liquid_adam

Advantages: good atmosphere, cosy, good food (check the specials)
Disadvantages: small

Borough cafe is located next to borough market, near to London Bridge. It is a very small greasy spoon tucked away in the back streets of borough, but once you have found it (if you can find it)you will return and return. Mama and Maria run things, with Maria cooking and Mama sorting your drinks out. The menu contains the standard greasy spoon fare, but it is once you have visited more than once that Maria will introduce the 'specials', which range ...
...work in the area. Borough cafe also played a sideline role in 'Lock Stock and two smoking barrels', being located right next to the building that the guys were based in. It also has an international reputation, due partly to the food, and partly to the warm vibe that Maria and Mama bring, having featured in Australian and South African newspapers, as well as getting regular reviews in the Guardian (Britain). There is one sad note that accompanies ... Read review

On our first date we ended up in Bed
Review of Bed Bar (London) by Melanie.Andres

Advantages: Gin & Tonic only £2,50
Disadvantages: no ladie's toilet

The Bed Bar is part of the Babushka Group and opened early this year on the far end of Portobello Road. It is an orange house on the corner of Portobello and Goldborne Road. With two floors, high ceilings and large windows it is a very spacious bar. Dark orange walls, blue ceilings and colourful but decent lights give the bar a Moroccan or middle eastern feel (kind of like Momo, but not that nice…). There is plenty of room to sit, downstairs and ...
...wooden or bronze tables. When it’s sunny you can also sit outside on the sidewalk and watch people passing by and observe the market life. It is visited a lot by locals during the week, while on Saturdays its location attracts a lot of market goers to have a coffee or drink after having strolled along all of Portobello Road. Although the Bedbar is more of a bar than a pub, at least by its look and atmosphere, it is open to regular pub times and ... Read review

Excellent french food in South Kensington
Review of Le Colombier, London by clemtuff

Advantages: Excellent french food
Disadvantages: price

I have been to Le Colombier a number of times over the last years and every time the food has been excellent. The restaurant is run and owned by "Didier" who also us manage the Brasserie St. Quentin on Brompton Road. The food is quite similar to that of a typical brasserie in paris. Starters include foie gras, crab salad, oysters, grilled goats cheese, onion soup all of which are excellent. For the main course there are a range of grilled fish and ...
...in all I can recommend Le Colombier to anyone who wants to have a good french meal in comfortable and not to loud sorroundings. One thing which is always a problem with good restaurants is the price - approx. 25 pounds per person without drinks. Enjoy! --------------------------------------------- Some of you wanted me to add a bit info on the restaurant. Decor & ambience: the decor is smart but cosy. The restaurant use to be an old pub which ... Read review

A safe bet
Review of Browns Restaurant, London by spankygoodtime

Advantages: Good food and atmosphere
Disadvantages: Noisy sometimes

...very qualified to comment about Browns because I worked there as a temporary chef a couple of years ago in the St Martin’s Lane branch. I had not been near the place again until a few weeks ago when a friend and I stopped there for coffee and cake. (She had coffee and cake, I had herbal tea!!) You know what you are getting when you go into this restaurant. This is also true when it comes to the food preparation and production in the kitchens. ...
...said, fairly standard to all Browns branches. Browns is expensive, but I don’t feel it is a rip-off for the fresh food that is on offer here. The menu has something to suit all tastes, including a pre-theatre dinner that is good value and afternoon tea and cake. (I remember working away baking those cakes there everyday!) Rooms for private parties are also available, with a choice of set menus. Children are welcomed here, and the management ... Read review
