London England

London is a melting pot of culture. People from the world over descend on it. What was once seen as a dull dirty cesspit by Charles Dickens has been transformed in countless books, films, and TV series into a dream destination for millions the world over. I have been living in London since 1990 so now in my 15th year have experience to write abut it.

I was told by a doctor that London is all about exploitation and it is true you can spend money like water earning it can be a lot harder. If you want a Job in London this is covered by job agency and Job Centre these offer jobs at rates from £6 per hour the minimum wage. £10 is a good wage per hour in London. Other ways of earning money include begging for those with little self respect but this is illegal. Also the big issue can be sold at 160p a time you will have to look the part to get sympathy too make money however. It is also possible to sell the Evening Standard paper for £10 per day plus commission on each paper sold; be prepared to be harassed, by the public as they are always lost. Another job in London is a courier either motorcycle or van on a motorcycle you can earn £3 or more per delivery any where in the country all this work is commission based and very hectic a young mans game. A mini cab driver is another job easy to get as no one else wants it earn £100 per week doing this for 12 hours a day five days a week usually a half day at week ends as well. Various other crummy jobs are available stand on street corners in certain places across town and get daily work for about £20 per day. Be careful I once went with a gang and was driven to Hertfordshire and expected to sleep in a caravan with broken windows on a freezing cold January night.

Transport in London is paid for by Oyster card credits these deduct monies from your balance when you get on or off a bus or tube fares vary but a one day pass is £3 for the bus and £5 for the tube. Taxi's also work in Central Areas at about £3 per mile Mini cabs can be taken out side central London how ever they are often driven by people whom do not know the way around and people and whom have been in prison so want to rob you for a fix.

London is famous for its amenities; parks are every where, some very big Hyde Park and Regent's the best all have toilets and café facilities. Museums are free most in South Kensington are giant and can take hours to look around. Art galleries are free as well the National Gallery next door to it is the National Portrait gallery. The Tate modern is also very popular big a must see. The British Museum is a giant one full of the world's treasures. Theatres cost £35 for a good seat Cinema £10 to see latest films. There are also restaurants every where café and fast food joints of all kinds.

The central areas are full of rich well behaved people the poor live out side Brixton is very rough. Every where in London there are drug addicts even in the Central areas. Other areas of interest are Camden Town it has a market and Hampstead Heath for gay men and families is near by to Camden.
There are lots of gays in London and Lesbians it is very friendly for them.

The City is an area of one square mile full of banks and financial houses. It also has 30+ churches to see and the Barbican centre an arts place for Opera. There are other opera and ballet dancing theatres. Shakespeare's Globe is worth a visit even if you do not like ham acting as it is always open on the South Bank of the river opposite the city.

Slums of London can be found in the Brixton and the White Chapel areas. Most are a distant memory. Cheap hotels are few; £50 is cheap for a room Gower Street has a few cheap rooms in the central area. Park Lane is full of top quality hotels the Hilton the Grosvenor House, Inn on the Park rooms here are hundreds of pounds a night. There is some thing for any one with money in London. Even those without money tramps come to London and have a great time with so much to do and see as Dr Johnson said "if you are tired of London you are tired of life".
