This place should not be confused with the "Lokal" Roman Loos in the Trans-Danubian Hinterland which is our regular destination after indoor cricket training. Loos bar is located just off Kärntnerstraße on a sidestreet (the Kärntnerdurchgang), only 50 metres away from Stephansplatz.
A lot of people like it to start off an evening but personally I have tended to head there at the end of a night, as it is open until 4am every day of the week (most bars will often shut around 2am during the week)
Loos Bar was designed by Adolf Loos around the start of the 20th century, and its design is part of the appeal of this bar. The bar is actually very small but there are lots of mirrors on the walls, creating the deception of the bar being bigger than you think it is. The interior is mainly in marble and wood, and the bar is instantly recogniseable from the outside, with a stained glass stars and stripes sign.
Whilst the bar does serve beers, it is really best known for its cocktails, and whilst they are good you clearly are paying for its location and its reputation. When in here with friends recently, they were denied a beer in the evening, although whether this was a ploy to try and get them to go elsewhere or is genuinely a rule I can't say.
The drinks are quite pricey and if you intend to buy a round of cocktails, you may either end up running to the cash-machine, or paying via credit card, the latter option being preferable. Fortunately They do take most major credit cards so it shouldn't be a problem. The clientele of this place can be a bit stuffy, and this is certainly a place to perhaps meet other people at and to then move on from.
