Having looked at reviews, both online, and in a national newspaper, I opted to book in for my honeymoon. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the staff were prepared to go out of their way for us to accomodate our needs, and ensure our comfort. We were arriving considerably later than planned, and the receptionist waited a couple of hours after her shift officially ended to ensure we received out key, and a welcome tray with tea and biscuits.

The website (www.lordbute.com) gives out a classy look and that is exactly what we found. The Lord Bute Suite is a comfortable, and spacious appartment, and for what you get is incredibly reasonably priced. Some reviews I had read, and that threatened to influence my opinion complained about noise coming from the main road running past the hotel - but it really didn't impose on us.
The breakfasts were thoroughly enjoyable, and the meal we had in the restaurant on our last evening, while not cheap, was imaginative, well prepared, and delicious. Although our stay didn't coincide with one, Wednesday nights at The Lord Bute is Jazz Night, which appears to be pretty popular, and good jazz/dinner prices are listed.
By way of things to do (and bear in mind our stay was a short one) from the hotel, just 1 mile down the road is Mudeford, a pretty seaside village with all the basic shops, as well as cafes/beach shops serving the Avon Beach (sandy and popular with families), and Mudeford quay (great for crab-fishing - bait can be bought from the fishmonger there, while crab hooks and buckets from the gift shop).
The quay has a regular ferry service taking you across the harbour to Henguistbury Head which itself is a havern for artists, looking for inspiration from their extremely expensive Beach Huts (£150,000 last listing I saw), and offers more sandy beaches. The road-train that runs along it proves to be a family attraction in itself, along with the opportunity to fish for more crabs off the ferry jetty. Also pulling in at the jetty is a ferry service to picturesque Christchurch, another mile or two down the road from Mudeford.
Christchurch is steeped in History, with the Priory well worth a visit, and the grounds around it offering a gentle walk in pretty gardens, littered with ruins and bits of history. Poke around the back streets of the town and you'll discover a ducking stall, stocks and whipping post commemorating some of the towns past. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants/pubs around the town to choose from - and regular transport to more shops and seafront at Bournemouth and Poole.
Back to the imediate area around The Lord Bute, and we didn't get chance to visit Highcliffe Castle - a short walk away near the cliff tops, or the less visited pebble beach below. That'll have to wait for another visit.
We left the hotel wishing we'd booked a longer stay, and feeling very well looked after - ready to reccomend it to our friends.
