...Puerto de la Cruz and Loro Parque.
The journey from the Village took just over and hour and a half, so from Las Americas or Los Christianos the drive would take around and hour. At the junction between TF1 and TF5 you will find all the road signs feature a small whale tail, parrot and dolphin symbol, this you simply follow to the park. Without it you would find it very hard to find the Park since it is in the middle of Puerto de la Cruz.
Ideally ... ...park.
Next up the Loro Show (Parrot show) having seen this once it is fascinating but Im not a fan of birds flying around me so we gave it a miss, if its your first visit give it a go if nothing else it gets you out of the sun for a while, we moved on to the Dolphinarium since a show was due to begin.
On the way to the dolphin show you pass the giant tortoises, there are two or three in here plus several smaller ones, as well as a sealion enclosure ...

Advantages: fascinating shows Disadvantages: which make me sad
...they get to know that Loro Parque is one, if not *the* attraction of the island, a huge poster welcomes them, all trolleys in the airport carry a small one. So that they won´t forget the message each bin on the island (more than 10 000 all in all) has a poster, too, showing a photo or a design of one of the animals of this small zoo.
It´s situated in Puerto de la Cruz, the well-known resort in the north of the island, in Punta Brava to be precise ... ...possible we decided to pay Loro Parque a visit.
The German Wolfgang Friedrich Kiessling founded it in 1972, he started with three loros as a taxi driver told us (Spaniards call parrots ´loros´), after more than 30 years he´s built the greatest delphinarium in Europe, the greatest penguinarium of the world, owns the best hotel on Tenerife (Hotel Botánico***** in Puerto de la Cruz) and has been awarded loads of awards and honours. He´s now planning ...

Advantages: The cleanest animal park you will ever visit Disadvantages: May be difficult for people with limited mobility
Loro Parque is an amazing animal park. Quite simply I do not know where to start - there is so much that can be said. I am going to concentrate on the highlights of the day as there is too much to put in a single review. I hope I cover the main attractions and that you may decide to visit after reading.
We visited as part of an organised excursion with our holiday company. The visit was expensive. But, after a day at Loro Parque we decided the entry ... ...still is.
You enter Loro Parque through a grand entrance designed as a Thai Village. The village is said to be the largest Thai village outside of Thailand itself and the park has a close relationship with Thai royalty. As you continue forwards there is a bridge over a lake filled with Koi carp in all sizes and colours. The path then leads to the entrance official, where a picture is taken of you with 2 parrots (the translation of loro parque is ...

Advantages: Good Value. Lots to see. Shows Multi-Lingual Disadvantages: Location poor for holiday makers in the south. Poorly planned show times.
...on a day trip to Loro Park in June 2006, although the translation is Parrot Park, the main reason for my visit was the Dolphin Show and the new Orca Show that openned at the begining of June.
I was travelling to Tenerife alone so it was also a solo trip to the park which I found suited me. Although there were lots of families on days out, I am not sure that I would have had such a good time if I'd had to consider other people, as I found that the ... ...is a free bus to Loro Parque from the centre of town. Not sure how easy it would be to get to from the south of the island, i would imagine it would take at least an hour each way on coach.
Oh and for those of you with Google Earth, it has great views of the park. ...

Advantages: Value for money, Great for all ages Disadvantages: In the north
...ago and saw adverts for Loro Parque (which stands for parrot park) everywhere so thought it was worth a visit although we were a bit sceptical because we thought it would be just parrots. However we were Pleasently suprised! There were all different kinds of animals (rather like a zoo) including 4 different shows. There was an excellent donphin and sealion shows which were exceptional , there was a parrot show in which parrots do tricks and fly around ... ...so spectacular).
Tickets were 24 EUR (about £17) for adults and were available from our hotel which meant when we walked into the parque we jumped the queue and went straight in! On the way in they give you a map in your language and take your picture with parrots (which you could buy later for 6EUR (£4) on your way out. It took us about 6 hours to see everything without stalling or repeating any part. There are several really good food places and ...
