You can escape Tinsletown in the mountains north of the city (where you can ski in winter), or on LA's famous beaches. Most tourist areas are safe, including Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu and Pacific Palisades. However other areas, notably Hollywood, can be dangerous after dark. ...I went to Los Angeles as a stop off on a trip across America. I went with the image of glitz and glam, and found dirty, drabby streets and run-down buildings. I was sorely disappointed. Luckly, I was staying with friends about half an hour south of Los Angeles and only visited the city for the day. As we travelled by a shabby bus across the city I saw images of disrepair and disrepute. The Chinese Mann Theatre was boring. We spent a little time outside looking at the different handprints of the stars, but after we had done that there was nothing else to do. We saw the famous "Hollywood" sign off in the distance and decided that was good enough. Well, it would have to do as I was not going to spent 2 hours on a bus just to see it closer. Advantages: great place for holiday
Disadvantages: dont go there in winter

...Los Angeles is really a cool place.I went there last year December and had a really cool time. The people there a re very friendly and the vibe there is awesome. Places such as the malls there are great to shop at,as they have everything you want and need. I would suggest to people that go to America on holiday to definately go to Los Angeles for like a week as it is a real fun place. There is a place called 3rd street where plenty of people go to as all the shops are open at night and they have great designer clothing there such as Diesel and others. Also a great place to go to is Burbank where all the movie stars live. It is right in L.A and really amazing sites to see!! this is a real win!... Read review
