Advantages: Experience a celebration in another country - free entertainment Disadvantages: The cake was expensive for what it was
FIESTA DE LOS REYES.
A SURPRISE AWAITS US:
We recently spent a week in Andalucía and this coincided with the Spanish celebration of The Three Kings on January 6th. Up till now I had only thought of January 6th as 12th night and the day that you should have all your decorations nicely put away for Christmas the next year. Once we arrived in Fuengirola we discovered that the 6th was a public holiday and made enquires as to what they were celebrating.
THE TRADITION OF THE FIESTA DE LOS REYES.
This is a celebration of the day the three Kings arrived in Bethlehem and presented the Christ child with their gifts. Traditionally January 6th was the day Spanish children received their gifts and they came from The Three Kings and not Santa.
On the night of January 5th children are supposed to leave their best shoes out by the door to receive ...
Advantages: Beach, Scenery, Monday Salou Market, Close to Barcelona, Cheap (there and presents to bring back) Disadvantages: Some people - don't go if you don't like being pushed out of the way by locals!
What a wonderful holiday! We searched the Internet for ages for information on our hotel prior to our holiday and found nothing - so here you are for anyone else interested in going!
Hotel LosAngeles is 5 minutes from the beach, less than one minute to the bars (across the road!) and less than one minute to the restaurants and shops. It is very commercialised - you don't feel like you're seeing much of Spain, but the cheap prices for everything including our holiday and beautiful scenary and beaches make up for it.
The hotel itself is a bit more than basic - it has 2 twins and either a single or bunks in the two rooms we had between the four of us (myself, my boyfriend and two friends, all early 20s). A bath and shower and TV (only CNN English speaking). The walls are paper thin. I would not recommend it as a hotel for light ...
Advantages: A World Class City Disadvantages: Don't try walking, the bus, or light rail
ripped up and freeways laid down. All those small, independent, villages and towns became virtual vassals of LosAngeles. The towns and cities grew together until now, the entire LosAngeles basin is one huge sprawling city made up of smaller communities with interesting names like: Artesia ? Bellflower?.and, my favorite: Azusa.
Visitors depending on public transportation to get around in L.A. are in for a difficult time. The city is simply TOO BIG, and the bus and rail system too inadequate to be of much use. You'll need to rent a car. Most of the car rental agencies will avail you a map of the freeway system and some minimal directions for finding the nearest on-ramp. After that you are largely on your own. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the freeway system map. True Angelinos NEVER take surface streets anywhere ...
