*NOTE: For the duration of the Edinburgh Festival, all time keeping goes to hell!!! Allow ample time for travelling through the city centre*
Lothian Buses, Edinburgh's largest bus company has a fleet of over 550 buses, running over 80 different services in and around Edinburgh.
People who use public transport are forever moaning about it. I thought I should turn this around in my opinion and just say how good a service I feel Lothian buses provide.
The company had put in millions of pounds of investment in recent years. Investing in timetables at all its bus stops and also many new buses, with low flooring enabling users of wheelchairs and parents with buggies to easily board the bus.
The fares which the company have set are very fair. A child (under 16) can travel any distance on a bus for a flat fare of 50p. Adult fares range from 50p up to £1 depending on the distnace travelled. For longer jounrneys (usuaully over 5 miles), I feel that £1 is fantastic value! If you plan to use more than one bus during the day you can purchase a day ticket for only £1.50 after 9.30am (£2.20 before 9.30am).
Lothian Buses operate a strict No-Smoking policy, with fines of upto £400 for those who ignore the regulations. I must commend the company in the high standard of service they continue to provide despite the recent serious problem of stone attacks on their buses in certain parts of the city. Some £160,000 is spent monthly on glass. This has no detered them from provinding a quality service - working closely with the police they are combatting this yobbish behaviour.
Obviously the buses do occaisionally run late, especially during the morning and evening rush hours, but the Metro newspapers provided on board help to combat the boredom!
