Lucca revisited

Advantages: Cycling around the city walls
Disadvantages: Parking

to the Duomo San Martino (cathedral). This is a nice place to visit to get away from the heat and bustle and sit and think. The darkness of Italian churches and cathedrals and the smell of insense and candles makes for a very calming experience. Remember to take something to cover shoulders and don't wear shorts...the guide books are actually right on that one. There are lots of little shops along the narrow alley ways. We found a lovely toy shop selling wooden toys, puppets, etc., loads of amazing delicatessant food shops and the usual tacky tourist souveneir shops. If you tire of Lucca itself, it is very well placed to reach many other places in Tuscany. We went to Pisa and made it to the top of the tower. We also went a bit further afield to the Island of Elba, taking our hire car over on the Ferry. What a beautiful ...

HOME COMFORTS or NOT IN LUCCA

Advantages: Cheap and Location
Disadvantages: Not Onsuite and no breakfast

The Quatro Fontanas or the Fountain Travel Club stayed in this Hotel (perhaps better decribed as Bed Guest House) The first thing it is very cheap in price two nights for Double Room thru Bookings.com would be about £60. You can also see photos of the Rooms on that site) Now I have said it is Cheap and no breakfast ,DONT TURN OFF JUST YET, it does have other attributes. First you have to find the place. We arrived as most do by Train from Pisa where we had flown into. The Airport at Pisa is only 3 miles from the Railway station, then about 35 mins on train to Lucca. You come out of the station at Lucca and are faced with what they call the Meadow. This is a grassy park area that lies outside the WALLS, yes WALLS. These you have to either Get over or walk round to one of the main gates. Lucca is a BEAUTIFUL WALLED TOWN ...

Basilica di San Marco

Advantages: Beautiful
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

Yes, another Venice review...Probably my last one though... Okay...Saint Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco) was built in 1071, and is in Venice, at St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco). The square can be hard to find, or very easy, depending on how good you are at navigating the streets (needless to say, we had a bit of a struggle!) Even though the basilica is enormous, I couldn't see it at all until we stumbled straight onto St Mark's Square, where it suddenly leaps out on you, dominating the place. If ever you go to Venice I would strongly recommend a trip to St Marks Square, as this building is probably one of the most amazing you will ever see. The thing that struck me first of all was the sheer colossal size of it. It is toweringly tall, and extemely wide, I have never seen anything like it. I was expecting to see ...
