Back in October my boyfriend and I decided we'd go to New York to celebrate being together for three years. After MUCH trawling round travel agents and more hours than I care to remember searching the internet, I found the best available deal. Three nights in 3 star accommodation, and flights, for just £300 each. BARGAIN. (www.lastminute.com) I checked with other online travel agents and the exact same package was £200 more expensive, and the price grew every week until we actually went, so we really did get a fantastic deal.
The catch was that we had to fly via Frankfurt. This wasnt such a problem on the way to NY as the transfer times meant we only had to wait half an hour between flights, but coming back we were stuck in Frankfurt airport for 5 hours in the middle of the night.

With Lufthansa you can fly to more than 900 destinations all over the world.
We flew from Manchester airport to Frankfurt Intl. and despite the flight being only an hour and a half we still were offered complimentary sandwiches and drinks. On the longhaul flight from Frankfurt to NY, tea coffee, wine, spirits, Baileys and other refreshments were free and plentiful. Headpones were free and as well as a meal, passengers were given snacks just before landing. There were also in-flight moves (Taxi Driver, and Wimbledon, completely rubbish but they made the 8 and a half hours go that little bit quicker)
The staff dress smartly and of course, speak English and German clearly and fluently. They are polite and attentive. I was really nervous about flying with Lufthansa after reading other reviews on ciao, as many people have said that the staff are rude and unhelpful. On the longhaul flights there were screens all over the plane so that no matter where you were sat you could watch the movies and documentaries that were shown, and inbetween showings you could monitor the planes progress across the atlantic, as there was a map and information such as the total distance travelled, the remaining distance, the outside temperature and the time at the destination.
If I were to complain, Id complain about the space. Leg room is minimal and if someone in front of you decides to recline their seat, as the vile couple in front of us did, you dont have any room to move as their chair is inches from your face, so youre forced to recline your own seat and irritate the poor person behind you. However, on Lufthansas planes leg room is above the industry standard. The seat pitch is 87cm/35inch compared to 81cm/32inch offered by BA. I was so uncomfortable that Ive decided I wont be flying economy on a longhaul flight ever again, its so worth paying extra to be comfortable. And as board the plane youre forced to walk through the business class section and see their comfortable seats and oodles of leg room, and you cant help feeling like cattle, being shoved and prodded into the pen in the back.
The food was nothing to shout about, but it never is on planes. I made the kistake of ordering fish rather than beef on the way to NY and I was soooo close to being sick. Ot was completely vile. It didnt help tat the pieces were rolled up and resembled herring, urgh. (It was sole)
None of my flights were delayed, but on the flight home from Germany to Manchester we were 20 minutes late with boarding because a member of staff was late. This was really irritating, after being stuck in the airport for 5 hours already in the middle of the night with nothing to do but wait.
Lufthansas website www.lufthansa.com is really clear and helpful, you can find out what plabe youll be travelling on and view seating plans, and you can find out anyhting you need to know about flying with lufthansa. You can manage your mileage account and there is the option of electronic and SMS check in too.
I would use Lufthansa again, but not on an intercontinental flight, as the stopover was too much travelling to handle. On the way back from New York to Frankfurt we actually lew over Manchester, meaning I travelled 500 miles firther to Germany, then another 500 back to Manchester! However if youre looking for a cheaper option you might want to try this because it saved us lots of money, meaning we could buy more in New York!
Advantages: Excellent product for intercontinental travel, extremely improved punctuality, good meals on longhaul flights Disadvantages: Extremely poor meals on shorthaul flights, limited inflight entertainment (except longhaul Business & First)
Lufthansa German Airlines has succeeded over British Airways to become Europe's largest carrier. With a range of innovations in the field of e-solutions, Lufthansa also seeks to be the most modern airline worldwide. Here comes a complete check of the product and service quality of Lufthansa.

Lufthansa operate an intercontinental fleet of Boeing 747-400s and a few 747-200s, as well as Airbus 340. The planes are all very modern and perfectly maintained - Lufthansa is the leading provider for aircraft technical services worldwide and runs inspections for dozens of other airlines. Among the real big carriers (i.e. those operating fifty ore more long range aircraft), only Singapore Airlines have a more modern intercontinental ...

...some more, and found that Lufthansa was offering a price of just over £100 including taxes. Sure, I had to fly from Heathrow, which is always a joy, and change in Frankfurt. But to save well over 100 quid, why not? Plus I could get miles on my Air Canada plan.

In City airport I was fine I had no problems checking in and boarding and was surprised that the plane actually left on time which is very rare for me when flying.

...that I am never flying Lufthansa again, full stop. First, it was packed. There wasn't one free seat. Lufthansa you see, doesn't believe in leaving a little room for error's sake. They pack em' in.
In such a film-packed season (halfway through 2004's summer movie time) there wasn't a huge amount on offer. "Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights" sounded somewhat rude and not the sort of thing you'd let your children watch (springing to mind several rather ... ...far the worst thing about Lufthansa is the Legroom. Take Ryanair's Legroom and divide it by half. That's the answer folks.
About an hour later we heard a crackly voice buzz down the loud speakers - one of the stewardesses spoke in a completely uniform tone, but I fancy I sensed some trembling in her voice. She said something that went like this:
"We are sorry to inform you that a passenger on board has been taken very ill, and If there is anyone ...

Advantages: good flights/awards ratio, excellent frequent flyer service Disadvantages: some awards too "expensive",hard to attain gold status
After several revamps throughout the last years, Lufthansa Miles & More is now among the very best frequent flyer programmes in the whole airline industry, second only to the Qualiflyer Programme. Learn how you can maximise your miles and get the most from them.
For those unfamiliar with frequent flyer programmes, here is a brief explanation:
For every flight you take with one airline or its partners you collect miles which in return can be exchanged into free flights. The idea behind it is that you fly mostly with that airline. Simply speaking, the quality of a frequent flyer programme depends on how many flights you need for a free award flight.
Miles & More (as of here M&M) is the frequent flyer programme of Lufthansa German Airlines and the Austrian Airlines Group (including Lauda Air and Tyrolean).
The programme has ...
Advantages: one of the best programmes around Disadvantages: :-)) you do have to fly or spend money
As someone who lives in London, I often find myself spoiled for choice of different airlines flying to the same destination.
And in this case it's all comes down to value for money, customer service and convinience offered by competitors.
I fly a lot for business and pleasure.
Therefore, I have registered with most of airline loyality programmes around.
The miles and more programme offers good value. More often then not you get generous amount of miles for the flights you have flown and there are some special promotions to look out for.
There is also opportunity to collect miles without actual flying ( in UK for example Lufthansa Miles and More credit card issed by MBNA with 6000 bonus miles on offer when you join)
Their website is very informative and offers every service posible online.
The flight awards start from ...
Having made several European Business trips over the past year , I have experienced the wide variety of short haul airlines. I will say now that I rate Ryanair higher than British Midland and Lufthansa and they are not the different to BA. The whole flight was a pleasure from the customer service to the food. Being tall I was lucky to have secured the exit window seat and found myself with plenty of room.
The flight arrived and departed on time which was a first for all of my trips last year. Having arrived very early, I waited inthe business loungee at Heathrow and was pleasantly surprised once again with it being far more spacious and better appointed than the BA equivalent.
Keep up the good work ...
