I was booked on an Alitalia flight from Bombay to Rome recently and infortunately the Alitalia flight was delayed for about 6 hours.
Being a Business Class passenger they therefore transferred my ticket to Lufthansa from Bombay to Frankfurt and Frankfurt to Rome.
Lufthansa use a 747 from Bombay to Frankfurt so I was expecting good things since Alitalia use a smaller MD-11 aircraft and since I had never travelled on Lufthansa previously.
As soon as I entered the aircraft and approached my seat all my expectations were gone.
The Business Class section is huge. They must be having at least 80 seats.
The seats are a lot smaller than other airline seats.
The service was not all that attentive although they did provide you with all the usual service that one would expect in Business Class.
Basically the main difference between Alitalia and Lufthansa were the seats (as I had mentioned in a earlier opinion on Alitalia). Alitalia's seats are huge whereas Lufthansa's are a lot smaller. Also their business class is just too large just too many seats, whereas Alitalia's just had about 30 seats so you always had proper attention and service at all times.
Sure they might have more cabin crew but the ratio of crew to passengers is a lot less and thus less attention.
Also if you travel on Business Class you expect a difference whereas in this case the Business Class is almost exactly the same as Economy just rows and rows and rows of seats and the only difference being the size of the seat, slightly more leg room.
I for sure will not travel on Lufthansa's Business Class ever again especially after paying the price that you pay for a Business Class ticket.
I expect a lot more from Business Class and in the future will always check how many Business Class Seats are on a particular flight. The less the better.
I am not aware of how much they charge for this sector since my ticket was transferred to them by Alitalia but my ticket through Alitalia with the routing of Accra - Rome - Bombay - Rome - Accra cost me only PDS1,500.00 which was a special offer.
