To be honest, I have never contemplated going with lufthansa because of the bad comments i heard and seen on the internet over the years. However, back in May 07, I decided to give it a go because Lufthansa is the only airline which can offer me a reasonable price for my trip to Japan and its scheduled flights fitted my travelling plan perfectly at the time. So, this review will be based on my to and fro 16 hours long ride to Japan (I am not too sure about short trips within europe) - pls note (ECONOMY class)

Before i flew, i was already informed that lufthansa airline have a terrible in flight entertainment. The first thing i did notice when i boarded the plane was that all the seats do not have their own personal screen. You get this pop down screen right at the front of the cabin which is not good enough really. All other airlines have upgraded their planes e.g. EMIRATES or SIA offer in flight entertainment of approx 200+ current and classic movies, hundreds of songs and games which you can watch whenever you like. The plane itself is also quite old but obivously clean and well maintained.
The seats are standard and have headrest which you can sleep on.

Now, let's talk about the service. I was actually quite pleasantly surprised by the good service despite bad remarks from many other people. All the air stewards and stewardness were softly spoken and friendly. Drinks and food were served at extremely regular interval which is a bonus *** for me. My friend and I were not treated badly because we do not speak german. The food was also surprisingly excellent - it was not expected. I have been with emirates ( airline voted for the best service) and i must say Lufthansa is equivalent is almost all departments.

I can't really comment on its punctuality and reliability because i have not travelled with lufthansa a lot but for me, there was no problem at all. Overall, i would say lufthansa can be a top airline if they could upgrade their aircrafts.

If you are a sort of person who are not too bothered by in flight entertainment ( just to eat and sleep), lufthansa is not a bad option. moreover, i think it gives one of the cheaper rate. However, if you are not, never go for it because you would be extremely disappointed.
