The Amalfi Coast -----Is this the best scenic route in Europe???

Advantages: Breathtakingly beautiful.
Disadvantages: The road is not one for the feint of heart

that are located precariously above the sea on the mountains. Every turn you make on the meandering coastal road brings you to another lovely little village - Positano, Sorrento, Ravello or Amalfi itself. The largest resort on the coastline is Amalfi. Amalfi lies within the steep Valle dei Mulini - and is a historic town that has some wonderful buildings . Towards the sea there is the port, bus terminus and a selection of cafes and restaurants. To the west edge of town on the hillside is an old Cappuchin convent, that is now the Hotel Cappuccini Convento - reached by a lift of green girders - you will see many such lifts around the coast. Above Amalfi high in the hills is the beautiful Ravello, hovering 1000 ft on the steep cliff. At Ravello are two incredible villas - Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone - you need to book to go ...

Review of The Amalfi Coast

A walk above the shores

Advantages: Spectacular coastline, with attractive towns and good walking
Disadvantages: A tourist trap, albeit a superior one

Updating my review of Inntravel, as I have just done, reminds me of the Amalfi Coast. Or, more specifically, of a walking holiday that my wife and I took there a few years ago, organised by that company, which may serve as an example both their holidays and of the attractions of the area itself. It is not a destination we would normally have chosen for walking, an activity best enjoyed in mountain areas far from the madding crowd. The Amalfi Coast, although commendably hilly, is populous and has been a holiday resort since Roman times. On this occasion, though, business and family commitments constricted us to early April, so we sought somewhere southerly, not too high up and with other things to do besides walking if the weather proved adverse. In the event, we coincided with a freak cold spell and were even snowed ...

Review of The Amalfi Coast

A taste of the Amalfi Coast in Thurrock

Advantages: good variety of dishes
Disadvantages: waiting time

Food Mamma Amalfi is an Italian themed restaurant, similar to the likes of Bella Pasta. It is an ideal place to have a meal with a group of people as there is so much variety in the menu there is bound to be something to please everyone. There is a good range of seafood, vegetarian and meat dishes, which is great as I can take my non meat eating friends there without feeling guilty that they have only one option on the menu. There are also quite a few dishes that are not either pizza or pasta so even those who dont particularly fancy an Italian should find something they like. I am not an expert on Italian Cuisine and have no idea whether this is at all like authentic Italian food but I really enjoy the rich and flavourful sauces of their pasta dishes, and have had some of my best pasta dishes there. Price I think the food ...
