The recent growth of business has turned Aulla into an important link for exchanges between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna (the region next to Tuscany). Pontremoli still boasts many traces of its past: the Piagnaro Castle, the numerous medieval bridges, the historical centre, the churches and the old buildings, where precious Baroque paintings are to be found. Its theatre is one of the oldest in Italy. The old village used to be an important business centre and a meeting point for the first itinerant booksellers; not surprisingly Pontremoli is the place where the famous 'Bancarella' Literary Award ...
