What a dump! No kidding, this airport is so far behind any other western airport I have been to in my life as to not be true!
The first part is the arrival. Nothing that you would take forgranted in any other modern-day airport. No, here you get the old set of steps wheeled up to the plane. As if this is not bad enough I had flown back from Spain, and it was wet and cold in Luton that December afternoon. I was not impressed.
We then went to get our bags in the most cramped baggage claim I had ever been to. Add to the fact that a lot of maintenance work was taking place and you can see we were not enjoying our arrival at Luton airport.
As my girlfriend and I had time to kill before our connecting flight we went to get food from the food court. Plenty of choices for food (proportionally), but yet a number of tables which were vastly less than you might have expected. Not cleaned upon a regular basis either. I dread to think of foreigners who see Luton Airport as their first experience of Britain, because it isn’t a pretty site.
And then for leaving itself. A lack of information on the video screens, we had no idea of our departure gate, and then once we did find it out the gates were not signposted. Not clever when added to a labyrinth of corridors, rooms and stairs. It doesn’t help when the airport staff are less than helpful either.
My tip – avoid flying through Luton at any cost. I certainly don’t intend to use the airport again.
