Wha? Queen of Hats & Cheap Suits? Wha?
Review of Queen Hatshepsut's Temple, Luxor by tazzywazzy

Advantages: Is pretty interesting & lovely view from the top.
Disadvantages: So shiny & new due to shoddy restoration.

...going to be going to Queen Hatshepsut's temple first, so as to avoid the other groups. For any of you that are interested, Queen Hatsheput's Temple is located in between the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens and on a direct axis with Karnak Temple (look out for that later). ~What's this place all about?~ We arrive at the car park of Hatsheput's temple and can see it in the distance sticking out of the side of the mountain, and our guide ...
...is about to start~ Queen Hatsheput is believed to have reigned from about 1479 - 1458 BC. I was informed by our guide that in Egypt, they count BC as being the year that Christ was crucified and not the year that he was born. As with a lot of ancient history, there are a lot of contradicting facts out there, so if anyone would like to correct me, please feel free to drop me a message and I will amend my review. Anyway. According to our guide, Queen ... Read review

Queen of the Valley
Review of Valley of the Queens by tazzywazzy

Advantages: Interesting, very interesting!
Disadvantages: The most famous tomb is now closed.

...all about then?~ The Valley of the Queens is the burial site for the Queens & children of the Pharaohs of the 18th, 19th & 20th dynasties (1550 - 1070BC). It is said that there are about 70 (some claim as many as 85) different burial sites in the area. Probably the most famous tomb here is that of Queen Nefertari*, which is the largest and most spectacular in the valley. Unfortunately, this tomb is now no longer open, we were told by our guide ...
...~Getting there~ The Valley of the Queens is a short distance from the Valley of the Kings, just the other side of Queen Hatshepsut's Burial Temple (see my last review Queen of Hats & Cheap Suits). Getting there would generally be by coach or taxi and it is probably about 20 mins from Luxor. As this site was included as part of our trip, we took the coach from Queen Hatshepsut's temple to the Valley of the Queens, this took us all of about 10 mins ... Read review

A completely different experience
Review of The Valley of the Kings, Egypt by Bekler21

Advantages: Really interesting, like nothing I have ever seen before
Disadvantages: Too hot!!

One of the places we visited in during our stay in Luxor was the Valley of the Kings and Queens on the west bank. We had got prices from many of the different travel agents (most quoted around £19pp). We were talking to a guy in our hotel who was selling balloon trips and he told us that his friend did private tours for £25pp (these prices included transport, tour guide and enterance into the attractions). Although it was slightly more expensive ...
...probably half an hour at the most but time went by very quickly as the tour guide was telling us alot of interesting facts and all about history of the place. The first place we went to was the valley of the kings. We were given 3 tickets which ment we could enter 3 tombs. If we wanted to go inside anymore then we would have to pay extra and to enter Tutenkhamun's tomb was another £7 (we decided to give this a miss as other epople who had went inside ... Read review

A true wonder of the ancient world!
Review of Temple of Karnak, Luxor by darkdisciple

Advantages: Largest place of worship in the world, awe inspiring
Disadvantages: Will get hassled, some bits not as good as others

...egyptian meal with them. Karnak temple though must be one of the best sights in Egypt and a must see for anyone with even a slight interest in the ancient history of this spectacular place. Having heard little about the temple before i arrived i was not sure what to expect, i knew that it was big but nothing really prepares you for the actuall scale untill you see it, and even at the main enterance the real scale is still not really aparent. The ...
...idea of the scale the temple is roughly twice the size of the surrounding village area, and due to this is a day out in its self, and even with a whole day its impossible to see every area and admire every piece of artwork painstakingly carved onto every surface, Karnak will literally blow you away and to imagine the place in its former glory baffles the mind. In terms of specific things to see there isnt essentially, no matter where you go there ... Read review

Valley of the kings- not to be missed
Review of The Valley of the Kings, Egypt by emma_georgeson

Advantages: amazing access and fantastic amount of history and culture
Disadvantages: 50oc in summer is a little too hot for a long day

...We chose to stay in the Hurghada resort for two weeks in june. on the coast the temperature was between 30-35oc. We were planning on spending two nights in cairo looking at the pyraminds however we spoke to our tour guide who reccommended a five hour coach journey to Luxor instead. Our first reaction was to dismiss it as five hours each way is a very long day in the summer heat but our guide was very enthusiatic about Luxor and in particular Valley ...
...was at 4am but suprisingly the journey did not seem that longand in fact I found it really interesting after travelling through the desert we drove along the Nile and through villages where children and their parents were working or playing in the fields or waving estacically at the bus going passed. We arrived at the Valley of the kings around 10am where the area was already packed with tourists however it was not too busy enough for us to feel ... Read review
