Tyhe temples at Luxor were absolutley amazing. I was so astounded at the site that I still have those memories of that holiday to egypt. The site is bathed in Ancient Eyptian glory and the historical background was very good. When you go I have to say that you definately need to get a very good tour guide that speaks good english and make sure that he actually knows what he is talking about and isn't just reciting something that he has learnt off by heart. When I went we had a very good a very good guide and he knew almost everything about egypt. I would hope he does considering he was studing Ancient Egypt at university.
The basic temples are amazing and across the beloved Nile is the tombs of Tutenkarmen. This is the land of the kings and is very good. You can see the tomb of Ramses the III. I really enjoyed this and we went during easter so it wasn't too hot. This leads me to my next point. I have to say that if you go during the summer then be prepared to boil. It is so hot that it was said it reached 47 celcius. Now this is serious heat. You will have to constantly keep drinking and it won't be any fun going around all of the sites when you are baking.
So if you are going to go to Egypt and Luxor then I definately recommend that you go but not during that summer time because you will not enjoy it one bit.
You're right, luxor is absolutely amazing! Unfortunately when I went we went in july and i really didn't think i'd survive the week. I'd have to agree- to make the most of Luxor, you really should go when the temperature is lower. :o)
