I live in Northern Ireland just outside Belfast. I love traveling and hope to do a lot more in the future!!! I've recently been to Luxor, Egypt and I've traveled around Turkey quite a bit.

My husband and I went to Luxor on the 30th of August 2006 for 2 weeks. We had never really thought about Egypt before but seen a good deal on the internet. We stayed in The New Winter Palace (sister hotel to the Winter Palace). The hotel was really nice but the food and drink was a lot more expensive than the local restaurants. The first day we arrived about 16:30 and decided to go for a walk. We walked along the Nile, the view was amazing and it was incredibly hot!! One thing that put us off a little was the hassle especially the horse carriage drivers, people just would not take no for an answer. We spent most of our days by the pool at the hotel, it was so hot we could only sunbathe for about 10 minutes at a time! We usually went shopping about 17:00 when it cooled down a bit, the amount of papyrus paintings and souvenirs we brought home was unbelievable and everything was so cheap! We only ate in the hotel our first night then we soon discovered it was much cheaper to eat outside for example the carvery in our hotel was 132 Egyptian pounds (roughly £13.20) but in a little English ran restaurant called John + John's the carvery was 37.5 Egyptian pounds (roughly £3.75!). We went on a tour of the valley of the Kings, Valley of the Queens and Hatshepsut temple. It was really out of this world.The only problem was the heat, it was so hot we couldn't spend a lot of time in the tombs or looking around the temple. Photographs were forbidden in the tombs but the guards (who were meant to stop people taking photos) were more than willing to take the photographs for you for a small fee of 5 Egyptian pounds (50p) We also went on a hot air balloon which was an amazing experience! You could see all of the West Bank, the only down side was getting up at 4am to be collected (it was too hot to go after the sun came up). We went to Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple, I have never seen anything like it. The work and detail that went into the buildings was unbelievable. Luxor museum and the Mummification museum were really interesting, especially seeing the real life mummies. My advice to anyone thinking of traveling to Luxor is shop around and never give the price that people ask for they expect you to bargain so they double the starting price. I would also avoid the horse carriages as they always try to take you places you don't want to go just to get more money off you, they also change the original price when you get off and try to pay (first they will say something like 5 Egyptian pound but when you go to pay they will say that they said 5 English pounds). Taxis are much less hassle!! Eat out in local restaurants they are much cheaper and the food is really good. All in all I loved Luxor and would definitely go back someday. Definitely worth a visit!!!

I agree about the heat- we went in October which was far too hot and it was winter-cant even imagine summer! Good review and i can really relate to the bit about the horse and cart guys- not worth it!
