I went to Las Vegas, and stayed in the Luxor hotel 2 years ago now, and it was amazing. It was huge, and there was so much to do in the hotel, we were only there for three days, and then we moved on to Palm Springs in calafornia. There was so much todo in the city and the hotel, and all the other hotels, we were spoilt for things to do. With all the casinos as well, we would never have got bored!
Hence the title of my review, this is one of te biggest, and i think one of the best hotels in LasVegas. There is 90% chance that you will go into a hotel in Las Vegas with over 1000 rooms. If you think the average hotel has 500 rooms. Think again, this is one of the biggest hotels in the world with over 4000 rooms! The biggest is the MGM Grand which is across the road from Luxor, and that has over 5000 rooms. It looks so big, it's scary! There is so much to do in Las Vegas, but also in Each hotel. The Luxor is a huge tourist attraction and lose of people go there.
In Las Vegas, you don't book a hotel, go there and just wake up; go downstairs to have breakfast and sit at the pool for a couple of hours. Las Vegas and the hotels are jam packed with people, this is because they are all unique and have attractions inside them.
You may be thinking what i am on about when i say attractions, however every hotel has different qualities that attracts them to it. Even if you are not staying in the Lxor hotel, the you will definatly be attracted to itin many ways.
The Luxor is huge. It is a enormous hotel shaped as a pyramid. It is the biggest pyramid hotel in the world, i am not suprise because it is ONE OF THE BIGGEST HOTELS in the world anyway. One of the first things that attracts people to the hotel, and what it is also well known for apart from its unique size and shape is the extremely strong light beam that shoots out the top of the pyramid into the sky.
This is a fact. At night when the beam is turned on, you can se it from space. It is one of the strongest beams of light, and at night when going back to your hotel you will never get lost because of this! We always knew how far away we were from out hotel whilst in the taxi, because you could simply see the light going up into the sky. It was amazing, it was so bright, and looked spectacular. The whole city of Las Vegas looked spectacular at night with all it's lights, but this gave it that extra something, that made it look amazing!
The hotel is huge, and has lose of things in it that you would never expect to be in a hotel. However the hotel is so big, it can fit lose of things in it. If you think this hotel has some amazing things in it, Cesears palace in Las Vegas must have costed
billions, with its luxury rooms, own shopping mall 3 times bigger than you get them here, and so many restaurants it's unbelievable!
Ok, so we flew with virgin atlantic to get to Las Vegas, and it was a nine hour flight, we were flying in premium. WE were upstairs on the way with bigger seats in this class, bigger TV, bigger room, Huge isle, and you get lots more extras. On the way back, we had our own games console that kept us entertaiined. I would highly reccomend this if you wee going to Las Vegas, you can go with them , and buy a package with virgin holidays.
Anyway, we were flying there, and arrived there at about 8:30pm or later at the airport. Then by the time we got to the hotel, it was very late. We were dead basically, and we got the handy key cards to our rooms, and put our things up there. The only thing that went wrong was that we never got an extra fold up bed that we needed until very late, but they did try their hardest and apoligised for this. Becasue it is such a big hotel, this is why they had trouble getting the bed to the room, but it wasn't that bad in the end.
So after we put our stuff in the rooms, we made our way downstairs to have a look at the hotel, as you might do when you get to any hotel. We went downstairs in the lift. You may be wondering how you get downstairs when the hotel is like a hollow pyramid with all the rooms on the edge, and the other things in the middle (not forgetting the two towers either side of the luxor with more rooms etc). At each corer of the hotel, there are several lifts. You go down diagonaly because of the shape of the hotel. It is quite an experience.
We get downstairs, and we look up and see how tall the hotel is, and look up and see hundreds of rooms. It looked amazing, i remember seeing lose of yellow lights that were on each floor to guide you round the floors.
After we finished admiring the floors, we looked down and walked around not knowing where we were going. It was like a maze. We finally found the middle, roughly and looked around.
Now, it was about 10:30, we were so tired! We had to do it, we had to stay up for another hour so we get used to the time difference or we would wake up early the next day and not be tired. We had to do this to get used to the tie difference.
It hurted, and i would never had imagined i would ever do this: We were up for more than a day, and we went into a 3D Cinema like the IMAX ones you get here in England. We were in the que for about 30 mins, when we could finally go in. Many of the people in the que were probably americans or people from other hotels anyway. This is because they showed different films in 3D just like they do here. They change the timetables, and show new films made when they come out. We saw some sort of scary horror film. It was about 40 minutes long as far as i remember, and it went very quicly, maybe this was because i fell asleep and then woke up at the end. Well the chairs were very comfortable!
It was a great film, and i did enjoy it although i was half asleep. It was in 3D, we were given these good quality 3D headsets. They were not little glasses, they were proper good ones, that strapped round your head. I was gettin really annoyed becasue i was so tired, and couldn't get the stupid thing on! In the end i did, and i think the loud noises and all the times i got a fright kept me awake quite well!
YAY! It ended, and we went straight out to our rooms to sleep, that must have been the best nights sleep i have ever had! It felt good, the next morning, i was fine and so was my family so it was worthstaying up late the night before. The rooms are nice with a huge window at the end which is basically extremely strong glass.
When you looked at the hotel from the outside, it just looked like brown tinted glass, that was very strong covering the huge pyramid. The two towers (not from lord of the rings) next to the pyramid were also covered in glass basically, so lose of light was let in the rooms.
The rooms were nice. They were all pretty big, and i could not imagine how big the suites were. We were sleeping/staying in the pyramid as you have probably realised already. The rooms were a nice size with on suite bathrooms, and lovely furnishing. They each had two Huge beds in them, and we got a fold up bed as well because we had more people which ended up to be fine and comfortable as well in the end.
The rooms had things such as a TV, chairs, and a desk. They had a fridge, great lighting, air conditioning that worked well, small tables, good size bathroom with bath tub with shower attatched, sink, and plenty of room for your toiletries. The bathrooms also included soaps, towels, and some shampoos and conditioners. These we always changed by the maids. The maids were very good, and always cleaned the room, so it looked like new. The rooms were in good conditions (we booked two), they didn't smell, and they were very good. They were also a lot bigger than some rooms that you may get in another hotel in Spain or Amsterdam or somewhere like that.
We had a great view from our rooms, we were on about the 20th floor or something like that, i cant remember now. It was very high, and we had great views from our huge windows, we cold see the whole city. I imagine that you would always geta good view if you were at a good height because round the whole hotel, there were big windows you could see out.
We were at one side of the hotel where you looked down and could see the pool. The pool was very nice, but packed. It got very hot in Las Vegas so people always went to the pool at our hotel to cool off. If you wanted to go dwn to the pool to chill out, then i suggest you go there and get a space rather early before everyone goes there. The pool was quite big but had nothing that i knew of like slides or lazy rivers. I always thought it would be good if there was this slide that went down from the top of the hotel to the pool, you would end up going so far, and i thought it's the perfect angle!
The hotel was called The Luxor, and was based on Luxor (the place) in Egypt. It has huge Egyption models in it, and the hotel is based on Egypt. This also explains why it is a huge pyramid.
Although it was tempting, and would be the best slide you would of ever been on, and the last slide, it is not a good idea to smash the window and slide down the pyramid. I imagine your bum would burn because of the glass being hot, and the friction. Also i don't think it would be a soft landing at the bottom. Last of all, your trouses/skirt may fall down when going down, and your bum will be rubbing against all the windows, and people will see it in their rooms! lol
I mentioned before about the Cinema being in the hotel, this is true but there is also a lot more attractions. There is an actuall ride, yes a ride! I never went on it, although i was tempted because these things costed money, and it was a ride. I don't know what they have in there noew, because i haven't been there for a while. It was one of those rides you sit on in a carridge and go round in. This was all in the hotel.
Las Vegas is obviously famous for it's casinos, and has some of the biggest in the world. You may come to Las Vegas for sightseeing like the Grand Canyon, but even if you are not great big gamblers you have to try out the casinos in the hotels. We won $20 profit on one of the machines. It is really fun, there are lose of games to play like blackjak, roulette, all the wheel spins, the hundreds of machines, and all the rest of games that you will find in any casino. This can all be found in the huge Luxor casino. It was huge! Under 18's are not allowed to go on the machines in any casino here. However, anyone is allowed to walk through seem as well in some of hotels, most of the ground floors have these huge casinos in them. You can cut across the casinos, but under 18's are allowed to go on the machines or hang around in the casino.
There were many shops in the Luxor hotel. There were even more restaurants, about 9 in total! In these shops you could buy all your souveniers for the Luxor, and Las Vegas in general. I bought a cup with 'Luxor' on it, at a reasonable price. There is also food you can buy in the shops, so you will never go hungry.
There are many restaurants, but we also came across a mc donalds, where we bought some food as a snack once. There are about 9 restaurants. We ate at a few of them, but there is one good main one for breakfast which was delicious. It was a 10 minute walk from our rooms to get there, this proving how big the hotel really was. It had everything, you could just go up there and help yourself. It was like a buffet with plenty of food to eat, there was a huge variety.
You could also go to this hotel at night to eat here, and it was also set out as a buffet and you could also order things. The food was very nice, and there was a very big variety at nightime too. This was only one of the restaurants. There were many more that were delicious as well.
You would never run out of places to eat, because surrounding the hotel were restaurants, other hotels with restaurants, and places to eat. We ate at wendys for a few nights, this was very nice, but kind of the fast food type. It was like TGI Fridays here, because you could sit down at nice tables and eat.
Las Vegas is a big city built in the middle of the desert which is actually wuite new, and it has so much to do, we were spoilt. A few of the places we visited were the m&m factory, This was a factory where it showed how m&m's were made (the chocolate m&m's). We visited the amazing light show downtown as well. That was really amazing with loud music, and all these lights producing these amazing light shows, and patterns that just looked amazing. Also who could forget the amazing Grand Canyon. We woke up at 6am, and headed out to a helicopter that took off, and took us (4 of us) and a couple of 2 others around the Grand Canyon. We stopped at a ranch and tried that thing where you swing round the rope, and throw it at a animal. Whatever its called, it's the things that cowboys do. There were some real cowboys there, and horses and some wierd dog too!
It was a great day when we went to the Grand Canyon, so there is a lot of things that you can do around the hotel. We never wanted to go to the pool, because there was o much other things to do. It was great!
Last of all, a lot of the hotels linked through these long corridors, and you could go on flat escalators to get there without walking. Hotels next to it were the Excallibar hotel, and the Mirage hotel. We saw a show at the Excallibar hotel, where we ate a royal feast whilst watching the great show. We also went into the huge aqarium at the mirage hotel that was great. As i said, every hotel had something big and great inside, that attracted people!
I hope you have enjoyed reading my review on the Luxor hotel, and i hope i have tempted you to go and book your summer holiday there now! It is a great hotel, with some amazing attractions and so many restaurants and things to do, its amazing. It is an amazing experience just going to Las Vegas in the first place, but going to this hotel topped it off for us!

Sounds fantastic. Only thing is, I've been to Luxor this year(in Egypt) and there are no Pyramids, they're in Cairo. A little artistic licence there. I'd love to go sometime. Excellent review. Jono :-)

I've been to Las Vegas a few times now and always end up staying at The Aladdin. We visited Luxor last time but didn't have much time to look at it properly, although the casino didn't impress me much. As The Aladdin is being revamped into Planet Hollywood I'll have to take a closer look at this one as an alternative hotel. A very helpful review. Steve :o)

Advantages: An unmistakable icon on the Strip, distinctive and with no shortage of class. Exceptional price for exceptional quality of room, service and attraction. Caters for all ages, groups and functional needs. One of the best. Disadvantages: Watch the queues and price increase around American holidays but at all other times it is a supremely priced hotel.
Advantages: Central Location, loads going on for both children and adults, if you shop around you can get a great deal Disadvantages: We did initially get put in a smoking room when we'd requested non smoking but that was soon resolved to our satisfaction and with no fuss
