We travelled from the UK to Phoenix, AZ, and drove to Las Vegas-a beautiful dirve if you have time to do it. We arrived in Las Vegas from the opposite end of the Strip to the Luxor, so could drive down and look at all the amazing sights. The Luxor itself is one of the last hotels on the Strip, just before Mandalay Bay. We went in off-peak season, which in Vegas is around July-August. It was extremely hot throughout our stay there-over 100F every day. A key thing to remember is that Vegas is in the middle of the desert, so the heat is dry and uncomfortable at times.
The Luxor itself is a wonderful and spacious hotel at an affordable price. I believe we paid $70-$80 a night, although at the weekends expect to pay up to 4x as much, depending on the season. Always book before you go, in order to get a better deal than the standard walk in rate, which will most definately be higher than online rates.
Since we were there as a family we had 2 rooms-one double and a single in the pyramid, rather than the tower. Our rooms overlooked the next property along, which is the Excalibur. Being a pyramid the windows slanted, offering a slightly different expirience to the other hotels. To get up to rooms above the first floor you have to take the inclinator-an elevator which inclines with the building-this, too, is a unique expirience. If you wish to take a ride in these lifts you must be staying in the pyramid, since you need to show your room key to get past security.
The rooms themselves were spacious and in keeping with the ancient Egyptian theme. Pyramid shaped shampoo/shower gel/body lotion bottles are provided in the bathroom. These are samples from the Luxor spa and are deliciously scented.
Service within the hotel from all staff was friendly and swift.
I would recommend this hotel to all kinds of travellers. It's great for families, since it's not at the centre of the strip, where all the gambling action is (People under 21 are not allowed on the casino floor, unless passing through). There is also a brillaint pool at the back of the property catering for all guests. Budget travellers may find a good deal here in the offpeak season, and the Duece busservice stops right outside, offering rides to all parts of the strip and down town for only $5 per 24 hour period.

Not a place I would dare go with our kids. Get them in an amusement arcade at Blackpool and they turn into revved up gamblers in seconds. Susie x

I tried to book to stay here for our Honeymoon in April 2006, I booked in May 05 and the Luxor was already fully booked!

I reviewed the Luxor myself recently. I liked it too. Did you swim in the pool? I was over there working but managed some day trips too. Did you go to any of the sites in the area? Valley of Fire was fab I think. Shoka X

Advantages: An unmistakable icon on the Strip, distinctive and with no shortage of class. Exceptional price for exceptional quality of room, service and attraction. Caters for all ages, groups and functional needs. One of the best. Disadvantages: Watch the queues and price increase around American holidays but at all other times it is a supremely priced hotel.
Advantages: Central Location, loads going on for both children and adults, if you shop around you can get a great deal Disadvantages: We did initially get put in a smoking room when we'd requested non smoking but that was soon resolved to our satisfaction and with no fuss
