...We have just returned from a perfect weekend in one of our favourite parts of France - Le Touquet. An hour’s drive from Calais (slightly less from the tunnel) finds you in a chic and elegant town. Le Touquet became popular at the turn of the century. It is also known as Paris-Plage, a beach resort for the Parisians. The town’s reputation was founded on its casinos, boutiques, championship golf courses, beautiful beaches and race track. Once the aeroplane was invented, wealthy Britons flew across the channel from England to dine at Le Touquet’s fine restaurants. It is still possible to fly to Le Touquet from Lydd in Kent on the delightfully-named “Love Air”. Le Touquet has retained much of the charm it had 100 years ago. Advantages: Good food, pleasant staff and good prices
Disadvantages: the ghostly feeling

...Whilst visiting friends in Lydd in Kent, we stayed at "The George hotel" a large hotel built in a very small town. When we went to the hotel, you can feel the characteristics and you can see some original features, we paid before we took our luggage up and the prices to stay for a double room is £45.00, a single room is £25.00, win is £45.00 and a room for a family of 3/4 is £55/£60. You can also have the choice to have breakfast there which was from £3.50 - £6.95 and of course you can't stay at a hotel without having there fry up!! The staff showed us our way up to our room, the place felt very strange and weird. As you walk along the narrow hallway on the top floor it was creaky and dim, you can even see that the flooring was slanted, it looked very spooky to me. Advantages: Very picturesque. History abounds. Nice little shops
Disadvantages: A tad expensive and a bit touristy

...and souvenirs, there are chemists, tailors, and confectionery shops. There is a florists and Rye even has its own newspaper, the Rye Observer, with offices in town. If you want to indulge in shopping in a big way Hastings, with its department stores, and Ashford, with its huge McArthur Glen factory outlet, are not far away. ^^^ Around Rye Rye is located very near the Romney Marsh which has a distinctive characterall of its own,including a heck of a lot of sheep, and there are several pleasant little towns like Lydd and New Romney. Camber Sands, long loved by Londoners, are nearby and the attractive Winchelsea Beach is on the doorstep. A bit further afield are the ever popular seaside resorts of Hastings and Eastbourne and a few miles to the north is the delightful Wealden town of Tenterden.That is great spot if you enjoy shopping for antiques !...
