Lyon is situated in the Rhone- Alpes region of France, which lies in the east close to the Swiss border. It is surrounded, unsurprisingly, by the Alps and is not very far away in fact from Europe's biggest mountain, Mont Blanc. It is in ... ...will also join me in Lyon next year) took a visit to the place.
How to get there
The easiest way to get to Lyon is by plane. There are direct plane services offered by Easyjet from Gatwick airport and British Airways offers direct services, however BA's flights are on the expensive side. Personally, living in Widnes (just outside Liverpool), Gatwick wasn't an option and to be honest I had to fly from Manchester airport. The best operator I found ...

...wants to learn the language, Lyon is the perfect place to do so. It's Location:
Lyon is considered to be the door to the South. Most Europeans, if they have traveled a little bit, have been through Lyon. Perhaps you can remember the horrible traffic jam in the tunnel that crosses the Fourvière hill. Most of you probably just rejoiced when you left the city because you almost suffocated to get through it. Lyon is not just a tunnel and a door to the ... ...the volcanic region West of Lyon in the center of France. You're only two hours away from Paris by train and an hour and a half from Marseille. If you don't want to go too far away from the city, you can venture up into the Monts du Lyonnais, picturesque hills right outside of Lyon (on the West side).

Advantages: getting aroung the city Disadvantages: too much to see in a weekend
I can't believe Lyon is not promoted more in the UK! We had the task of picking up a relative from the train station (Lyon Perrache) and so we decided to make a weekend of it. And what a weekend! The shopping, for a start is formidable, from the huge mall at Lyon Part Dieu to the small shops and department stores in the city. However, the buildings, architecture and sights of the city are quite something else.
The massive squares in the city have ... ...is fast and efficient; from Lyon Perrache you can take the train (obviously), the bus station (national and international), the tram, the local buses and the underground system. For 4.20 euros a day you can use the tram, underground and local buses without limit. You can also take the funiculars up the steep cliffs to visit the roman amphitheatre and the Basilique Notre-Dame.
At the top of the city (north of Perrache) is the Parc tete d'or. This ...

Lyon's Pride Review ofLyon (France)by
peel.rebekah
Advantages: History, culture and good food Disadvantages: Industrial backdrop
Lyon has long suffered being the second largest city in France, continuously having to compete with the illustrious Paris. Be warned, first impressions of Lyon are not to be trusted - the abundance of factories, (the chemical corridor,) the long, intertwined motorways full of traffic and the overbearing greyness of the buildings - give yourself a chance to discover the real heart of this city.
The 'Old Town' lies in the centre of the city, and here ... ...artists, great fun.
Since 1985 Lyon has been desperately trying to improve self-image and reputation, so a lot of money has been invested into the lighting of the city. This has worked wonders and as you stroll along the banks of the Saone at night, looking for a nice restaurant, (of which there are many,) you will appreciate the effort. ...
