MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas

I stayed at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for 3 nights and 4 days in August 2008 and can honestly say I had a great time. Please let me warn you that this is a fairly lengthy review of my experience. We got a taxi from the airport to the hotel which cost about $7 which worked out at less than £4 at the time. The first thing you notice about stepping out of the taxi and into the hotel is the fabulous air-conditioning. Vegas in August is VERY hot, well over 40o Centigrade! We stayed at the MASSIVE MGM Grand for a few days this time last year. The MGM Grand, guarded by a 45-foot-tall bronze lion statue has 5,005 rooms and used to be the largest hotel in the world, a claim recently stolen by the Ambassador City Jomtien hotel in Thailand with 5,100 rooms. It's still the largest hotel in North America, although I think this will soon be stolen by George Clooney's Vegas hotel development... We stayed in the MGM in June this year, from the outside the hotel looked a little old compared to some of the others, the building is green so stands out. Inside when you walk in there is reception, which has a massive gold lion in the middle of it. There are lots of bell boys running around and they were friendly and happy to help. We checked in ans were directed to our room. We stayed in the west wing, which was quite a walk from the reception area, there was a maze of casino tables and machines along the way, but it was all clearly sign posted. My husband and I have just gotten back from a trip to Las Vegas and chose the MGM hotel to stay at so this forms my review. The MGM is located right on the strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) right by Tropicana Avenue so fairly near one end of the strip. It is located close to the New York New York hotel and there is actually a walkway which joins the two hotels to give you easy access to both. The hotel in its present form was opened at the end of 1993. Most of the hotels in Las Vegas have a certain them that they like to promote through each of their casinos such at NY NY, Paris, The Venetian etc ... more

This was on our first trip to Vegas, more of a business trip for me. I found the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino and excellent choice overall. It's not the Venetian or the Bellagio but we were able to get a special online and so grabbed it for a quick few nights. The bedrooms weren't huge but the view from the window was stunning. Overall, everything was more than adequate and our experience from the rooms, the lobby and the staff was pleasant. Of course, being in Vegas and in that location was wonderful. The MGM is situated in my opinion enough in the heart of things to get the full flavor of this ... more
