M Hotel, Singapore

Advantages: Cheap, clean and safe
Disadvantages: Not for the faint-hearted if you don't like the real world

...gently uphill for about 50m to the start of a whole collection of sidewalk cafes and a variety of restaurants. By 6pm people were gathering outside for a drink so I decided to do the same and sat down and ordered a beer. I had just visited a cash point (ATM) which was only a 150 yds along the main road at the top. Buses poured along this road but I never tried them - they were probably very efficient and super cheap - all mass transportation is in Singapore, including the excellent Metro system. This accolade also includes Hotel Certification. Every hotel is rigorously inspected by their equivelent of the Tourist Board and high standards are required. If your proposed hotel is billed as 2-star - then that is exactly what it is. There are no doss-houses any more with a star rating. The 81 Geyland is 3*** and yes - that is what it is... Read review

...For those who have been keeping up with my Mandarin Oriental exploits then this is the third installment. Today I shall review one of Singapore?s finest five star hotels and let you into the world of Mandarin Oriental Singapore. I have stayed at a variety of hotels in Singapore but none have come as close to the perfect stay that you get at MO. I last stayed here in 2007 when the hotel was just branded as The Oriental, however Mandarin Oriental have since renamed the property under their full brand, just to make you aware in case you read reviews on either of the properties, they are in fact the same. Just look for the ?fan? logo of the company. I was staying in Singapore in between a trip from Malaysia to Australia and given my love for MO I knew this would be a good choice. Three shopping malls are located in the vicinity of the hotel, including Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. You will also take 20 minutes to arrive at the hotel from Changi Airport.
