A friend and I met for lunch at Ocean Terminal in Edinburgh. We decided to go to Ma Potters Chargrill which is on the second floor of the centre and is accessible, by escalators, stairs or by the lift.
As you approach the restuarant, which is not behind glass, you get the delicious aromas of the food! MMMMM we thought.
We walked into the pleasantly decorated restaurant and within seconds were seated before even reaching the 'Please wait here to be seated' sign. We got a table right next to the window which overlooks the water and the Royal Ship Britania! It is lovely to sit here and watch the ships sailing on the water or just to look at the Britania.
We had menus placed on the table, so we got settled and started to look at what to have. There is a variet of toasties like cheese and tuna, Paninis with bacon lettuce and tomato. They also do baguettes with cajun chicken and minute steak. There is also a Spicy Cajun Chicken wrap, which I can assure you is spicy after a previous visit! They also do a variety on the menu of steaks, chicken and mushroom pie and fish and chips amongst some of the choices. You can also have various salads like caeser salad. You also get a choice of side dishes like garlic bread, onion rings, mixed salad and chips. The main courses and bagguettes range from about £3.95-£12.95! The £12.95 is for the steaks! The side orders all average at about £1.40-£2. This menu is served daily until 5pm when an eveing menu comes into place! I have never eaten here in the evenings so I can't comment on that menu, but my mum and dad have been there and said it was lovely!
My friend opted for the cheese and tuna toastie, which came with chips and a side salad. I had the minute steak bagguette which also came with chips and salad, although on my plate they seemed to have forgotten about my cucumber and tomato. Never mind I had garlic mayonnaise on the side so that made up for it! My friend said that her toastie was hot and very tasty! It must have been as she cleared her plate! My steak was cooked to perfection and with the Garlic Mayo, mmmmmm. My only complaint was that there was salsa on it and it was very hot!
We also had 2 large soft drinks. My friend had diet coke, while I had to have FAT coke.
Our order was taken after about 5 minutes of us being there. The waitress was pleasant and smiled. It was quiet and our order took about 15 minutes to come but that suited me as I had my 7 month old son to feed, so it gave me time to feed him, then settle him and be able to eat my lunch without being harrassed!
The waitress popped over twice to check that our meals were satisfactory. Then when she cleared our plates she asked if we would like to see the dessert menu. We both declined and she left us to chat for about 15 minutes before asking if we would like our bill. For our lunch of 2 main courses and 2 drinks it was a very reasonable £14.80!
A lot of people may think that this is a high amount but for good food and a hassel free lunch, I thought this was excellent!
The restaurant wasn't too busy either, but that was lunch time during the week! Once you visit at the weekend it can be very busy and you may have to wait!
There is a little area just off the main restaurant where if you would just like a drink you can have one without having to have a meal!
SO if you have Ma Potters near you get in there and try it and tell me how you like it!
Advantages: Nice setting, quick service Disadvantages: rubbish food, dirty toilets
...restaurant we decided to try Ma potters in Edinburgh. We were seated very quickly at a nice table by the window overlooking the royal yacht brittania. I orderded the scampi and chips and my wife went for the fish and chips. The food came 20 minutes later but as soon as we saw the plates we knew it was a BIG mistake to come here. There were around 10 undercooked chips on each plate, the mushy peas were like baby food, the fish was tiny and looked ...
