Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel is a breath of fresh air. Dating from the turn of the last century, the original house is an architectural delight with exposed beams, wood panelling and fine English oil paintings scattered through a building of elegant proportions. Receiving excellent natural light, the number of spacious bedrooms at Craxton Wood has reached 72 after a major redevelopment, and the elegance is on an even higher level now. Indeed, woodland orchard and rose garden colours bring a little of the grounds into your room, while chrome detailing and Italian marble continues the attention to quality. The double AA rosette-winning restaurant has long beed regarded as one of the finest in the whol Nowth West. In a detirminedly classical approach to cooking, the internationally trained chefs prepare exquisite dishes whose subtle flavours can only have come from the finest and freshest of ingredients.
Advantages: It's spectacular and surprisingly quiet and the best location in the city Disadvantages: Parking, high prices.
...As a student at Oxford University in the late 1980s, the Randolph seemed like the physical embodiment of the class divide that afflicted poor kids like me who came from state schools from the much wealthier students who took the affluence and grandeur of the city's finest hotel entirely in their stride. I'd never been in such a grand hotel and the closest thing to a grand building in my home city was the local branch of Lloyds Bank.
My flat mates' parents would arrive each term and take us out to the Randolph for rather staid Sunday lunches in the spectacular high ceilinged dining room where we'd sit and watch the world cycle by through the tall windows. By contrast my parents would visit bringing a bag full of fish and chips or a Chinese take-away. I can't really say that we enjoyed the Randolph that much more than a take...

Advantages: Very good Hotel, great service Disadvantages: In the wrong place.
...Just back from a weekend Jaunt to Ireland. We flew Ryanair Eastmidlands to Shannon, £38 return (No hold luggage and online checkin).
We booked the Oakwood Arms at Shannon, this was mainly as our return flight was 09:30 Monday morning and we did not want to get up early to travel.
We booked it thru LATEROOMS.COM for 85 Euros a night for Double room with Buffet Breakfast.
Ireland seems to be pricey for Hotels, so this was not too bad (We do cheaper when we go Venice).
We had hired a Car so after picking that up it was just a 10 min Drive into Shannon and the Hotel.
First Impressions were very good, better than most of the reviews we had read.
Its a low level building on the edge of Shannon, not that there's much in the middle of Shannon, just seems to be a Housing Estate.
Checkin looks very smart and professional...

Advantages: Beautiful location, close to good pubs and restaurants Disadvantages: Quite expensive
...My partner and myself enjoy staying in hotels just outside our local area, and the Last Drop Village Hotel and Spa was a destination we had been intending to try for a while.
The village itself is very quaint and surrounds the hotel which is well known around the area as an exclusive and rather expensive hotel experience. The nearest village to the hotel is Bromley Cross which is a ten minute walk away and is well supplied with all the pubs and restaurants one could wish for if a night out is required rather than a relaxing night in, sampling the many facilities of probably the finest hotel in this area.
The hotel itself is rather sprawling and quirky, and is more a complex than a bonafide village in it's own right. The hotel is very traditional and not in the least like some low market travel lodge.
The facilities include...
