Macdonald Hill Valley Hotel, Golf & Country Club, Shrewsbury

Advantages: Great hotels, and facilities
Disadvantages: EXPENSIVE!!!

...After another argument with the little lady I was feeling stressed and in need of some TLC. "Right that’s it" I shouted, "We are going away for a night". To which she replied "where?” She had a point, i am only 21, I can’t drive and i am not rich in any way shape or form. Despite this I really needed a break from reality. The Christmas bonus had just been deposited into my bank account so I thought of the closest 4 star I could think of. "We are going to that big hotel on the Wroxham Road" said I not knowing the name at the time. So off we went, as we pulled down the seemingly endless drive from the main road I thought gosh this looks different to any hotel I had ever stayed in (i am more used to forte pothouses or similar!!). Advantages: Historical town, loads of little shops, cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants
Disadvantages: Hills, cobbles - accessibity problems

...'s grave in the graveyard of St Chad's Church. To really experience the Dickensian atmosphere you must visit Wyle Cop. Dickens not only stayed here, he also wrote about it. As he looked out of his window at The Lion Hotel - you can still stay here - he described the scene as follows; "looking all downhill and slantwise at the crookedest black and white houses, all of many shapes except straight shapes." Shrewsbury is full of black and white timber buildings and intriguing haunted alleys with curious names such as Grope Lane and Butcher Row. Visiting these winding streets and narrow alleys you will find one of the best collections of independent shops in the country. ...The Botley Park Golf and Country Club is owned and operated by Macdonald Hotels, a group with some 70 hotels across England, Scotland and Wales. The hotel is situated just 15 minutes from Southampton Parkway railway station and Southampton (Eastleigh) Airport and five minutes from junction 7 on the M27. Website and Booking -------------------------- I did not book this hotel in the conventional sense, as I was actually part of a Wedding Party eight weeks ago...and therefore my friend (the bride) took care of the booking for me.
