Picturesque Windermere
Review of Hillthwaite House Hotel, Windermere by  jude76

Advantages: excellant value for money
Disadvantages: set on steep hill

...and breakfast stay, in a four poster, Jacuzzi suite and I would say this was well worth the money. The dinner alone, in a restaurant in the South East where I live, would cost in excess of £70 in total, therefore, £85 per night, per room, including unlimited breakfast, for the suite we had, was excellent value for money. Drinks are in line with pub prices, which made a refreshing change, as normally hotel prices can be a little inflated. ****area accessibility**** The hotel is situated within walking distance of Bowness-on-Windermere, which is where you can pick up the Windermere Ferries. It is about a 15 minute walk going, as it’s downhill, but probably a good 30 minutes coming back. Not good if you have small children or mobility issues and very steep in places. In the opposite direction is the town of Windermere, with its variety... Read review

Poetry and Pints
Review of The Lake District (England) by  Elffriend

Advantages: Something for everyone and you don't need hiking boots.
Disadvantages: The British weather.

...-over-Sands so our first main trip was to Bowness-on-Windermere a quaint little village with narrow streets and some good local shops. It's also the home of the Beatrix Potter exhibition well worth a visit. Our main stop was at Windermere to find out what boat trips were available and when they sailed we wanted to do an early evening trip and catch some of the sunset, finding ourselves with a few hours free we drove into Ambleside and had a late lunch in one of the many little cafes here. What an experience it turned out to be from the moment we set foot on one of the large steamers our cameras were clicking away capturing the scenery before settling down to enjoy the pleasure of gently being carried along the lake. A few small boats passed by with an adventurous water-skier rippling the water. As the sun began to set the surface of the lake... Read review

The 4* @ The Southern Tip of Lake Windermere
Review of Swan Hotel, Newby Bridge by  juliet_bravo

Advantages: Picturesque part of the country, fairly luxurious, Fantastic Gym
Disadvantages: No Spa, Prices can be steep, Summer Hols are too busy

...The Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge is situated at the Southern most tip of Lake Windermere. It is in a beautiful location, overlooking the river Leven (which flows into Windermere) and is set back from the main road, accessible by a traditional stone bridge which has been there for centuries. HISTORY ********** The Swan was formerly a small, traditional guest house and the old part of the building dates back to the 18th century. It's owners, Mrs Bardsley and the late Roland Bardsley subjected it to a huge overhaul in the mid nineties, spending a vast amount of money converting it from a homely 7 bedroomed inn to what it is today. THE HOTEL ************** It has 55 bedrooms, 7 of which are in the old part of the building. The further 48 rooms, 6 of which are suites, are spread over two floors in the new wing of the hotel...
