The lounge is comfortable, fabulous large comfy settees, the staff are amazing and cant do enough for you. Drinks tend to be pricey and the bar menu is limited, although the restaurant serves a lovely evening meal and breakfasts to die for. The continental choice is amazing, there is also the option of full breakfast, which is normally very good, though during the week can be a bit slow dependent on your choice of breakfast time. The hotel seems to cater mostly for business people during the week , weekends, older couples and wedding parties. The rooms are a good size and all have ensuite (they even have volume controls so you can listen to the TV or radio in the bath!!) Good selection of "smellies" in the bathroom too, with clean fresh towels daily. There is also a TV, tea and coffee facilites and biscuits. A mini bar is provided too but again, a bit pricey. Iron, ironing board and hairdriers are also provided. The Cathedral can be seen from rooms to the rear of the hotel. The hotel also has a gym, swimming pool, tanning facilities and jacuzzi (probably more but I confess to an aversion to exercise therefore tended to avoid these areas). Prices vary and there are weekend offers. The location is ideal for a base for visiting Devon, Torquay is just a short drive, however the local transport is exceptionally good with day passes for £5.00, you can spend the whole day sightseeing ( I recommend the Jurassic Trail, although the day I went it was misty and visibility wasnt too great). Theres so much to see in Exeter and the Southgate is the perfect base.
