The beaches in town are ok, we went a bit further away from the town and spent a couple of nice days in a small pension run by Dona Margarita, a colourful local character who told us numerous times that she had never married because men just want your money. Do not ask us how she succeeded in doing this, ... ...in our room due to the fact that the housemaid of the house had decided to take a holiday ahead of the Carnival period! I do not remember where Dona Margarita’s house is, but it is North of the town. It was indicated to us by fellow travellers we had met earlier.

Maceio is a nice town with clean beaches and a good night life, a good place to chill out. I liked to spend the whole day on the beach and eat seafood from the vendors walking their way up and down the coast. Sometimes they can be a hassle, there are many of them and they want to sell you different stuff, so be prepared, but the food is generally good, fresh, and cheap.
