Maceio is the capital of the State of Alagoas. The town had a particularly slow pace, but then it was January and most of people were on holiday. The beaches in town are ok, we went a bit further away from the town and spent a couple of nice days in a small pension run by Dona Margarita, a colourful local character who told us numerous times that she had never married because men just want your money. Do not ask us how she succeeded in doing this, but she had the 3 of us mopping the floor in our room due to the fact that the housemaid of the house had decided to take a holiday ahead of the Carnival period! I do not remember where Dona Margarita’s house is, but it is North of the town. It was indicated to us by fellow travellers we had met earlier.
