WHERE? We always planned to go to Madame Tussauds during our stay in New York as it was in our Tourist guidebook. We got a cab from our hotel and gave the address, when we hit Times square the traffic was barely moving and as many of the streets are only one way sometimes a a short distance takes a round about cab journey, even when your not being fleeced! So the cab driver informed us where to head and we set off on foot, turns out we weren't far away as it is just west of Times Square on 42nd street, round about half way across the block, but it was very poorly signed and there is so much going on around Times Square anyway you could easily miss it. Once found we joined the queue only to find out 10/15 mins later that we were in a school trip queue and that you can actually walk straight in.Duh!
HOW MUCH? Prices at $29 per adult and $23 per child over 4 seem fairly reasonable for a standard tourist attraction.
EXPERIENCE? We were welcomed into the lift by about the only friendly helpful touristry staff we met in New York,so well done Madame Tussauds! Then we entered the first hall. Now Madame Tussauds is what it is,they are dummys and they are only ever going to be as exciting as dummys are to you. It was interesting to see how tall, small, skinny e.t.c. the stars were,if they really are to scale,I'm not convinced J.Lo's was!!! You could tell who all the models were, except a few American T.V stars that we didn't know, but some of them you could really tell they were a model of the people. So,not too convincing. It was still nice to shake hands with George Clooney,Nicolas Cage,John Travolta,Julia Roberts,Beyonce,Jimi Hendrix,Jon Bon Jovi, the list goes on...and they have started to add little things like sweating hands, heart beats, and blushing! There was an opportunity on the stairs to have your photo taken in the hand of the Incredible Hulk, which made nice souvenirs, and you could sing your heart out in an audition to Simon Cowell!! I also stood waiting for someone to take a photo of Nsync, until I realized that they too were a wax work and everybody that had already been 'had' by the gag was standing laughing at me!! There was a nice tribute to Sept 11th with the firemen lifting the 'stars and stripes'. When it came to the last room,we were a bit dissapointed to be honest, that thats all there were. I think they could do with more set-ups and quirky attractions rather than rooms with lookylikeys just standing.
SO? Over all worth a look, great for kids.
