Afternoon tea at Reid's Palace Hotel
Review of Reid's Palace, Funchal by
zoetna
Advantages: Good service with a feel good ambience
Disadvantages: none - do it.
...the terrace at the historic Reid's Palace Hotel is a bit of a must do thing while on holiday in Madeira. We stayed at the Pestana Grand in September 2007 and they were happy to book a table for two for us at Reid's Palace hotel.
I was a little concerned about going to Reid's Palace because taking afternoon tea isn't really a regular holiday activity for me. I am more likely to be taking an afternoon hair of the dog!
We were a bit put off the idea ... ...from a decent list. The Reid's palace blend was so nice that we bought some in their gift shop. Included in the price and served with the tea were plate stands with a selection of sandwiches and 6 cream cakes. Scones with jam and cream were also served. The service was excellent and the food very good. We felt ever so good doing this, it was really civilised and we just felt happy. We did this on our last full day before leaving Madeira and I would ...

The Crowne Plaza, Madeira, Asolutely Fantastic!
Review of Crowne Plaza Madeira, Funchal by
stey2k
Advantages: Stunning Hotel, Brand New, Clinically Clean, Excellent Professional Service.
Disadvantages: Getting to the pools becomes a bit tiresome after a while!
...problems going again.
The Crowne Plaza Resort Hotel is based in Funchal (the capital of Madeira) right on the sea front with EVERY room having a full sea view, so no need to worry about being stuck in front of a noisy road. It has 9 floors and as round 1000 rooms but although this may sound huge, the hotel is actually built as two identical hotels joined in the middle. So there is at least 2 of everything i.e. 2 receptions, 3 pools, 4 lifts (2 for ... ...with a piano player and then later on they usually get a variety of live acts to come and play. The service within the hotel is excellent and it is kept so clean that you actually wouldnt find a speck of dust ANYWHERE.
The rooms are brilliant, they have all modern furnishings, wooden floors, comfy beds, balcony, TV with sky, mini bar, bathroom with marble basins, shower, bath, toilet. Huge balcony overlooking the sea. You get free bottled water ...

Regency Club Hotel Funchal
Review of Madeira Regency Club, Funchal by
lesleyburden
Advantages: Lovely big spacious rooms and balconies
Disadvantages: Location
...and was top quality food with plenty choice but I found that the hot foods were not particularly hot. However the hotel was very enjoyable in itself but we did not really like Madeira as a holiday destination. Overall the hotel was good but Madeira was not as we expected. ...

Park yourself here and overlook the Ocean.
Review of Tivoli Ocean Park, Funchal by
jo145
Advantages: Good 5 star hotel, super food
Disadvantages: A long walk to town centre
...too!
We choose the Tivoli Ocean Park through a getaway break with our Timeshare, but anyone can stay in the suites at this hotel, there are 23 Terrace suites and 24 Tower suites, ours was in the Tower, which is the central part of the hotel with sea views from the balcony. There are also 245 Deluxe/standard rooms and 21 Superior rooms, plus 4 deluxe for disabled guests. As the name suggests it is part of the Tivoli Hotel Group.
Our balcony gave ... ...in the vicinity of the Tivoli Ocean Park Hotel. Noise is normally minimal and only occurs during normal working hours." We could hear and see cranes working, but it wasn't too annoying, although for people in rooms overlooking the building sites which are on both sides of the hotel it might have been dusty and more noisy. Both hotels being built will soon be completed.
Verdict - a great hotel especially if you can get a bargain price! ...

Hotel in quiet yet accessible area.
Review of Porto Santa Maria Hotel, Funchal by
CHAOS1979
Advantages: Easy access to all activities and public transport.
Disadvantages: Probably quite expensive!
This is a beautiful hotel situated right at the end of the main promanade in Funchal. The views across the ocean, and into the city are perfect, with the sun setting over golden cliffs to the west in the evening towards the harbour. The hotel is situated right by the cable car and taxi rank, with the city centre on your door step, yet it is not a busy area, with very little noise. I have sat by the hotel reading a book in the shade many a time, enjoying ... ...I attended a party at this hotel, a wedding, and it really is outstanding inside, although unfortunately, I didnt get a chance to see any of the rooms. But knowing the group that owns it and having stayed in another one of their hotel I would assume it is excellent! I have entered most as "average" as I did not experience the hotel as a paying client as such. ...
