Review of Madrid in general by eminem1234

Advantages: Many things to see, Great underground subway, Nightlife
Disadvantages: Many "risky" places,

Madrid... I have lived in Madrid for 17 years almost and I never regret having done so. Madrid is an excellent city that offers a variety of tourism for any culture. It has a great selection of good restaurants and bars that come from national selections to international/oriental gourmet but its all superb. The nightlife in Madrid is wonderful, having loads of bars and discotheques (many of them are huge). The best thing for me is the "football ...

Metro disruptions in Madrid
Review of Getting around in Madrid by joeyl

Advantages: No long stops or breakdowns
Disadvantages: Large areas of the city inaccessible by metro

I visited Madrid in September and found that a two or three of the metro lines were closed for maintenance completely for a significant portion of the line. Apart from this the remainder of the trains worked fine. I did find that there was a lack of information - it was not clear at the outset of a journey that the lines were closed and the new airport link was open but this was difficult to tell and judging by the low number of tourists using the ... Madrid
Review of Madrid in general by strawberrylady62

Advantages: Couldn't see any
Disadvantages: dirty, busy, grey, dull, congested

...been told in advance that Madrid was a brilliant city and that I would love it. I suppose everyone is different, but I could not find one thing I liked about it. I found it to be grey, dirty, run down, extremely busy, traffic constant almost everywhere...I really did not take to the place at all. The only good thing about it was the people, as always I found the Spanish people lovely and obliging, and more than willing to help out with language difficulties. ...
...terminally depressed in Madrid. All the streets looked the same, a grid of rows and rows of tall buildings, grey, years worth of old torn billboard posters layered over one another...In essence, in my opinion, Madrid is not an attractive city..the best bit?? at the airport on the way home ... ...from his favourite hunting grounds. Madrid met that requirement admirably, and the town also had good water, room for expansion and fertile farmland in the vicinity. Once the decision was made, Philip initiated a building program to make Madrid a suitable capital. Later Spanish kings also embellished the city, creating a unique connection between Madrid and the monarchy. By the 17th century, Madrid has become the largest city in Spain. Today it ...
...of the city is called Madrid of the Austrias, dating from the Austrian or Hasburg, dynasty of the 16th and 17th centuries. Subsequent additions became known as the Madrid of the Bourbons, the present dynasty that dates from 1700. Over the centuries, Spanish kings promoted or financed the construction of many of the capitals stately buildings. This priceless collection of paintings now forms the nucleus of Madrid national art gallery. And extensive ... Read review
