A hotel fit for a Duque?
Review of Gran Hotel Conde Duque, Madrid by
Morgenhund
Advantages: convenient location, clean quiet and comfortable
Disadvantages: single room a touch on the small side, breakfast quite pricey compared with local cafés.
I stayed in the Gran Hotel Conde Duque for five nights when attending a conference which I had been organising in Madrid last October. As I work for a non-profit organisation my remit was to ensure that my accommodation was not overly expensive - no easy task, as well as being one of the official conference hotels. By booking on Activehotels.com I was able to get a single room for EUR 91 (ca. GBP 63) a night – coming out at just under EUR 98 (ca ... ...was substantially cheaper than the “reduced rate” of EUR 135 (ca. GBP 97) excluding tax being offered for single occupancy of a double room by our conference partners.
It should of course be noted that as with nearly all hotels in Madrid, prices are exclusive of breakfast – for breakfast you will pay approx EUR12 (ca. GBP 8) extra. I did have breakfast on the Sunday morning after the conference – it was very filling and well worth the money, although ...

City Centre Madrid Hotel On a Shoestring
Review of Asturias Hotel, Madrid by
pigeon1986
Advantages: Very close to city centre and transport, Cheap.
Disadvantages: Can be noisy
...eventually settled on the Hotel Asturias because it fitted what we wanted. It is extremely close to the city centre which is what we wanted as we were only there for 3 nights. It is only minutes away from the Calle Gran Via, one of the main shopping streets in Madrid. It is also minutes away from two metro stations (in opposite directions, either Sol or Sevilla which will connect you up with anywhere in the city. There are a number of bars and restaurants ... ...a city break. The hotel Asturias where we stayed was very pleasant and had a great location whilst remaining relatively cheap. The hotel was fairly basic, but for the price not much could be expected and we believe it was fantastic value and so would highly recommend. Especially if like us you are a couple on a budget. The hotel would not be too suitable for a family as the biggest rooms seemed to be doubles and so would not really be suitable for ...

Hotel Praga, Madrid, Spain
Review of Hotel Praga, Madrid by
jonathancox52
Advantages: Cheaper than city, clean and tidy,
Disadvantages: location, language
...my birthday and stayed at hotel praga for 3 days. It is located out of the centre but not too far away, there is a metro station 5 min from the hotel which is great and easy to use, the same as the one in london if that makes it easier for you. its 1 euro for a one way ticket, the down side is the staff dont exactly speak alot of english, which can be tricky at busy times of the day.We got a taxi from the airport which cost about 27-28 euro, easy ... ...us. Its a 24 hour hotel so there is no problem with getting back after goin to the city at night. There is no gift shop or anything to do in the hotel at all, its really good for business people who travel quite a lot. But its a lot cheaper to stay at hotel praga than somewere in the city. Overall then it was a good place to stay and was in quite a good location and i would go back again. 3 nights in hotel praga cost £40 per night per room ...

Good Airport Hotel
Review of Hotel Auditorium, Madrid by
sadoldbag
Advantages: reasonably-priced rooms, clean modern facilities, near airport
Disadvantages: no easy access to city centre
...day. Near the hotel there is nothing much you can walk to except a few bars and very local menu del dia cafes beloved of local lorry drivers - one three star hotel nearby with a reasonable but overpriced restaurant (nice terrace) and a nice trade in ladies of the night! It is right on the motorway - hence convenient for the airport.
Facilities
It is apparently the largest hotel in Europe and is MASSIVE. So if you want anonymity - perfect! It ... ...car in the lobby! The hotel bars are not local prices (i.e. not dirt cheap) but on a par with UK drinks prices. They will serve you spirits until you say "when" though, rather than in piddly little UK measures so it's still good value. If you are a night owl be warned though - the hotel bar closes around 2am and there is no 24 access for residents so you might have to resort to your limited minibar.
The rooms themselves - most have massive 6 foot ...

Excellent base for exploring Madrid city centre
Review of Suites 33, Madrid by
anfi66
Advantages: Esxcellent location, spacious clean rooms
Disadvantages: Small reception area and lift.
This hotel appears to be a recently converted apartment building and the exterior is bright and clean, though the signage isn't very visible until you are at the entrance. The reception area is quite long and narrow, but well designed and laid out, and is staffed 24 hours. There was a modern lift, though it was quite small and cramped, but very handy for taking luggage up to your room.
The rooms are bright and spacious, complete with equally large ... ...small kitchen area with a sink, hob and a fridge, which was great for chilling bottles of refreshing soda drinks. When we visited the hotel had not long opened and so the cupboards were yet to be stocked with crockery, cutlery or utensils. This was really the only inconvenience as we couldn't make tea or coffee when we wanted.
The rooms are recently decorated and the beds were extremely comfortable. The room had a bright, modern décor and tiled ...
