A hotel fit for a Duque?
Advantages: convenient location, clean quiet and comfortable Disadvantages: single room a touch on the small side, breakfast quite pricey compared with local cafés.
I stayed in the Gran Hotel Conde Duque for five nights when attending a conference which I had been organising in Madrid last October. As I work for a non-profit organisation my remit was to ensure that my accommodation was not overly expensive - no easy task, as well as being one of the official conference hotels. By booking on Activehotels.com I was able to get a single room for EUR 91 (ca. GBP 63) a night – coming out at just under EUR 98 (ca ... ...was substantially cheaper than the “reduced rate” of EUR 135 (ca. GBP 97) excluding tax being offered for single occupancy of a double room by our conference partners.
It should of course be noted that as with nearly all hotels in Madrid, prices are exclusive of breakfast – for breakfast you will pay approx EUR12 (ca. GBP 8) extra. I did have breakfast on the Sunday morning after the conference – it was very filling and well worth the money, although ...

City Centre Madrid Hotel On a Shoestring
Advantages: Very close to city centre and transport, Cheap. Disadvantages: Can be noisy
...eventually settled on the Hotel Asturias because it fitted what we wanted. It is extremely close to the city centre which is what we wanted as we were only there for 3 nights. It is only minutes away from the Calle Gran Via, one of the main shopping streets in Madrid. It is also minutes away from two metro stations (in opposite directions, either Sol or Sevilla which will connect you up with anywhere in the city. There are a number of bars and restaurants ... ...a city break. The hotel Asturias where we stayed was very pleasant and had a great location whilst remaining relatively cheap. The hotel was fairly basic, but for the price not much could be expected and we believe it was fantastic value and so would highly recommend. Especially if like us you are a couple on a budget. The hotel would not be too suitable for a family as the biggest rooms seemed to be doubles and so would not really be suitable for ...

Excellent location, very thin walls!
Advantages: Close to the centre, on the metro line, friendly bi-lingual staff, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Very thin walls
...a website for the 4* Husa Moncloa and were excited by the images of fantastic looking rooms and a beautiful looking pool. We were however a little confused to see the same pool image on the website for the sister hotel, Husa Princesa. Nevertheless we went ahead and booked as we knew that the sister hotel was virtually next door and guessed that facilities must be shared between the two.
Arriving at Madrid airport we opted to take a taxi into the ... ...to get around. The Husa Moncloa is just off the main Calle de Princesa with numerous shops, restuarants and bars and a short walk to the Parque del Oeste, the Teleforica (cable car to the Casa de Campo), Plaze de Espana and Palacio Real. Slightly further, but certainly still within walking distance, is Puerta del Sol (the main tourist area). Most of our time was spent wandering around, only jumping on the metro when we were tired. Another good way ...

Holiday Inn Madrid
Advantages: Nice staff, clean, kettle in the room Disadvantages: The local area, rather expensive
This is yet another hotel stayed in when travelling with work.
It's a four star hotel (Ciao has it listed as a three star) and is located in the business district in Madrid. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeau, the home of Real Madrid football club is also very close by if you are interested in football. Public transport is very good-metro station and bus stop near by, the bus is one Euro into central Madrid and unlike London they have plenty of bus ... ...rubbish strewn everywhere!
The hotel itself is a typical sprawling 1980's concrete block. The surrounding area is a bit dodgy at night and opposite the hotel is a boarded up cinema. In fact the whole area is pretty much a concrete jungle and I would be careful with going out after dark as it's pretty deserted once the businesses have shut for the evening. I expected the financial district to be like the City of London-busy, gleaming, new etc but ...

A great Hotel experience in a great city
Advantages: Friendly staff, great ambiance, decor, cleanliness Disadvantages: Can be crowded
...in true luxury, then the Silken Puerta America is the place to go. Great facilities, excellent location, friendly staff, and surprisngly reasonable prices if you "shop around" the Net for special deals.
Located about 2 minutes walk from Caragena metro station, the Hotel is in a quiet part of town, and yet the centre, with all it's attractions, is just two metro stops away, and a return metro journey costs only 2 euros, which is less than £2.00. ... ...to see what good value Madrid can be as a holiday destination.
From the outside, the Puerta America does not look anything special - just a high rise with some strange grafitti-style writing in many languages, all over the facade......... but step over the threshold into the large and airy Reception area, and you are in another world. Each of the floors of the Hotel has been individually designed by world-renowned designers, so each has it's own ...
