Adequate to Good for the short break

Advantages: Restaurant for breakfast; good size rooms with private facilities
Disadvantages: Distance from town centre

The Hotel Claridge was booked by us through Go!, the low-fare airline. Their website points you to their hotel-booking service. Having found the Claridge there, I tried to find a cheaper price for the same hotel on other hotel booking sites, but failed. The two of us (man & wife) stayed there for five nights. The room was simple but quite comfortable, with a separate bathroom, including bidet, over-bath shower, W.C. and wash basin. It was reasonably ...
...keeping up with the news thanks to satellite TV, with channels including BBC World and CNN, if you speak no Spanish. There was also La Cinq, a French channel, if you speak French but no Spanish. We did not attempt room service, but there were snack machines on three floors, along with free ice machines. The rooms were cleaned very well each morning, and the beds made appropriately. We were, however, disappointed that our booking of a double bed ...

Excellent location, very thin walls!

Advantages: Close to the centre, on the metro line, friendly bi-lingual staff, comfortable rooms
Disadvantages: Very thin walls

...a website for the 4* Husa Moncloa and were excited by the images of fantastic looking rooms and a beautiful looking pool. We were however a little confused to see the same pool image on the website for the sister hotel, Husa Princesa. Nevertheless we went ahead and booked as we knew that the sister hotel was virtually next door and guessed that facilities must be shared between the two. Arriving at Madrid airport we opted to take a taxi into the ...
...to get around. The Husa Moncloa is just off the main Calle de Princesa with numerous shops, restuarants and bars and a short walk to the Parque del Oeste, the Teleforica (cable car to the Casa de Campo), Plaze de Espana and Palacio Real. Slightly further, but certainly still within walking distance, is Puerta del Sol (the main tourist area). Most of our time was spent wandering around, only jumping on the metro when we were tired. Another good way ...

Holiday Inn Madrid

Advantages: Nice staff, clean, kettle in the room
Disadvantages: The local area, rather expensive

This is yet another hotel stayed in when travelling with work. It's a four star hotel (Ciao has it listed as a three star) and is located in the business district in Madrid. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeau, the home of Real Madrid football club is also very close by if you are interested in football. Public transport is very good-metro station and bus stop near by, the bus is one Euro into central Madrid and unlike London they have plenty of bus ...
...rubbish strewn everywhere! The hotel itself is a typical sprawling 1980's concrete block. The surrounding area is a bit dodgy at night and opposite the hotel is a boarded up cinema. In fact the whole area is pretty much a concrete jungle and I would be careful with going out after dark as it's pretty deserted once the businesses have shut for the evening. I expected the financial district to be like the City of London-busy, gleaming, new etc but ...

A great Hotel experience in a great city

Advantages: Friendly staff, great ambiance, decor, cleanliness
Disadvantages: Can be crowded

...in true luxury, then the Silken Puerta America is the place to go. Great facilities, excellent location, friendly staff, and surprisngly reasonable prices if you "shop around" the Net for special deals. Located about 2 minutes walk from Caragena metro station, the Hotel is in a quiet part of town, and yet the centre, with all it's attractions, is just two metro stops away, and a return metro journey costs only 2 euros, which is less than £2.00. ...
...to see what good value Madrid can be as a holiday destination. From the outside, the Puerta America does not look anything special - just a high rise with some strange grafitti-style writing in many languages, all over the facade......... but step over the threshold into the large and airy Reception area, and you are in another world. Each of the floors of the Hotel has been individually designed by world-renowned designers, so each has it's own ...

Hotel Praga, Madrid, Spain

Advantages: Cheaper than city, clean and tidy,
Disadvantages: location, language

...my birthday and stayed at hotel praga for 3 days. It is located out of the centre but not too far away, there is a metro station 5 min from the hotel which is great and easy to use, the same as the one in london if that makes it easier for you. its 1 euro for a one way ticket, the down side is the staff dont exactly speak alot of english, which can be tricky at busy times of the day.We got a taxi from the airport which cost about 27-28 euro, easy ...
...us. Its a 24 hour hotel so there is no problem with getting back after goin to the city at night. There is no gift shop or anything to do in the hotel at all, its really good for business people who travel quite a lot. But its a lot cheaper to stay at hotel praga than somewere in the city. Overall then it was a good place to stay and was in quite a good location and i would go back again. 3 nights in hotel praga cost £40 per night per room ...
