Traditional hard-floored hotel

Advantages: Central location, room safe
Disadvantages: Dangerous floors

...of the Royal Palace, the Opera Theatre and Puerta del Sol as well as Gran Via with its traditional shops, fashion centres and big stores. Being at the centre it is also close to the area of museums such as Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia, the restaurants and cafes and the parks and gardens. We used it as a great central base to explore the wonderful sights of Madrid. We stayed in a twin room. It was not a problem to remove the bedside table separating ...
...However, the cot that we pre ordered was initially not available and took some awkward explaining to hotel staff that what we needed was a cot and not a sofa bed for our one year old child. Who says the continentals are better at understanding the needs of children? Some knowledge of Spanish was helpful and was finally successful. It was not a cot we'd use at home but it was safe enough. The floor, though, was a different matter. Throughout the ...

See Madrid From This Fab Hotel

Advantages: Very close to the Puerta Del Sol and Gran Via.
Disadvantages: None

I booked our short break through Expedia, who are always good at finding the best deals. Neither myself nor my husband had been to Madrid before, so we had no knowledge of the city at all. I researched the layout mapwise, to find out where the centre was regarding shopping, bars etc. The Puerta del Sol seemed as central as we could get. The hotel was on the Via Arenal, just off the square. On arrival we were greeted in good English by a very friendly ...
...bright and modern. Not huge, but for a city centre it was big enough. There was a lift to all floors luckily, as we were on the 5th. Our room was large and airy. Satellite TV, air conditioning (a blessing in July), large double bed, plenty of storage and a wall safe. The bathroom was clean and roomy with one of those showers you walk into and it sprays you from all angles. Breakfast was buffet style, and fair value for money. As I remember it was ...

Excellent location, very thin walls!

Advantages: Close to the centre, on the metro line, friendly bi-lingual staff, comfortable rooms
Disadvantages: Very thin walls

...a website for the 4* Husa Moncloa and were excited by the images of fantastic looking rooms and a beautiful looking pool. We were however a little confused to see the same pool image on the website for the sister hotel, Husa Princesa. Nevertheless we went ahead and booked as we knew that the sister hotel was virtually next door and guessed that facilities must be shared between the two. Arriving at Madrid airport we opted to take a taxi into the ...
...to get around. The Husa Moncloa is just off the main Calle de Princesa with numerous shops, restuarants and bars and a short walk to the Parque del Oeste, the Teleforica (cable car to the Casa de Campo), Plaze de Espana and Palacio Real. Slightly further, but certainly still within walking distance, is Puerta del Sol (the main tourist area). Most of our time was spent wandering around, only jumping on the metro when we were tired. Another good way ...

Holiday Inn Madrid

Advantages: Nice staff, clean, kettle in the room
Disadvantages: The local area, rather expensive

This is yet another hotel stayed in when travelling with work. It's a four star hotel (Ciao has it listed as a three star) and is located in the business district in Madrid. The Estadio Santiago Bernabeau, the home of Real Madrid football club is also very close by if you are interested in football. Public transport is very good-metro station and bus stop near by, the bus is one Euro into central Madrid and unlike London they have plenty of bus ...
...rubbish strewn everywhere! The hotel itself is a typical sprawling 1980's concrete block. The surrounding area is a bit dodgy at night and opposite the hotel is a boarded up cinema. In fact the whole area is pretty much a concrete jungle and I would be careful with going out after dark as it's pretty deserted once the businesses have shut for the evening. I expected the financial district to be like the City of London-busy, gleaming, new etc but ...

A great Hotel experience in a great city

Advantages: Friendly staff, great ambiance, decor, cleanliness
Disadvantages: Can be crowded

...in true luxury, then the Silken Puerta America is the place to go. Great facilities, excellent location, friendly staff, and surprisngly reasonable prices if you "shop around" the Net for special deals. Located about 2 minutes walk from Caragena metro station, the Hotel is in a quiet part of town, and yet the centre, with all it's attractions, is just two metro stops away, and a return metro journey costs only 2 euros, which is less than £2.00. ...
...to see what good value Madrid can be as a holiday destination. From the outside, the Puerta America does not look anything special - just a high rise with some strange grafitti-style writing in many languages, all over the facade......... but step over the threshold into the large and airy Reception area, and you are in another world. Each of the floors of the Hotel has been individually designed by world-renowned designers, so each has it's own ...
