Traditional hard-floored hotel
Advantages: Central location, room safe Disadvantages: Dangerous floors
...of the Royal Palace, the Opera Theatre and Puerta del Sol as well as Gran Via with its traditional shops, fashion centres and big stores. Being at the centre it is also close to the area of museums such as Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia, the restaurants and cafes and the parks and gardens. We used it as a great central base to explore the wonderful sights of Madrid.
We stayed in a twin room. It was not a problem to remove the bedside table separating ... ...However, the cot that we pre ordered was initially not available and took some awkward explaining to hotel staff that what we needed was a cot and not a sofa bed for our one year old child. Who says the continentals are better at understanding the needs of children? Some knowledge of Spanish was helpful and was finally successful. It was not a cot we'd use at home but it was safe enough.
The floor, though, was a different matter. Throughout the ...

City Centre Madrid Hotel On a Shoestring
Advantages: Very close to city centre and transport, Cheap. Disadvantages: Can be noisy
...eventually settled on the Hotel Asturias because it fitted what we wanted. It is extremely close to the city centre which is what we wanted as we were only there for 3 nights. It is only minutes away from the Calle Gran Via, one of the main shopping streets in Madrid. It is also minutes away from two metro stations (in opposite directions, either Sol or Sevilla which will connect you up with anywhere in the city. There are a number of bars and restaurants ... ...a city break. The hotel Asturias where we stayed was very pleasant and had a great location whilst remaining relatively cheap. The hotel was fairly basic, but for the price not much could be expected and we believe it was fantastic value and so would highly recommend. Especially if like us you are a couple on a budget. The hotel would not be too suitable for a family as the biggest rooms seemed to be doubles and so would not really be suitable for ...

Hotel Praga, Madrid, Spain
Advantages: Cheaper than city, clean and tidy, Disadvantages: location, language
...my birthday and stayed at hotel praga for 3 days. It is located out of the centre but not too far away, there is a metro station 5 min from the hotel which is great and easy to use, the same as the one in london if that makes it easier for you. its 1 euro for a one way ticket, the down side is the staff dont exactly speak alot of english, which can be tricky at busy times of the day.We got a taxi from the airport which cost about 27-28 euro, easy ... ...us. Its a 24 hour hotel so there is no problem with getting back after goin to the city at night. There is no gift shop or anything to do in the hotel at all, its really good for business people who travel quite a lot. But its a lot cheaper to stay at hotel praga than somewere in the city. Overall then it was a good place to stay and was in quite a good location and i would go back again. 3 nights in hotel praga cost £40 per night per room ...

See Madrid From This Fab Hotel
Advantages: Very close to the Puerta Del Sol and Gran Via. Disadvantages: None
I booked our short break through Expedia, who are always good at finding the best deals. Neither myself nor my husband had been to Madrid before, so we had no knowledge of the city at all. I researched the layout mapwise, to find out where the centre was regarding shopping, bars etc. The Puerta del Sol seemed as central as we could get. The hotel was on the Via Arenal, just off the square. On arrival we were greeted in good English by a very friendly ... ...bright and modern. Not huge, but for a city centre it was big enough. There was a lift to all floors luckily, as we were on the 5th. Our room was large and airy. Satellite TV, air conditioning (a blessing in July), large double bed, plenty of storage and a wall safe. The bathroom was clean and roomy with one of those showers you walk into and it sprays you from all angles. Breakfast was buffet style, and fair value for money. As I remember it was ...

Excellent location, very thin walls!
Advantages: Close to the centre, on the metro line, friendly bi-lingual staff, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Very thin walls
...a website for the 4* Husa Moncloa and were excited by the images of fantastic looking rooms and a beautiful looking pool. We were however a little confused to see the same pool image on the website for the sister hotel, Husa Princesa. Nevertheless we went ahead and booked as we knew that the sister hotel was virtually next door and guessed that facilities must be shared between the two.
Arriving at Madrid airport we opted to take a taxi into the ... ...to get around. The Husa Moncloa is just off the main Calle de Princesa with numerous shops, restuarants and bars and a short walk to the Parque del Oeste, the Teleforica (cable car to the Casa de Campo), Plaze de Espana and Palacio Real. Slightly further, but certainly still within walking distance, is Puerta del Sol (the main tourist area). Most of our time was spent wandering around, only jumping on the metro when we were tired. Another good way ...
