Ski Val D'Isere on a budget

Advantages: Extensive Ski-ing, great night life
Disadvantages: Can be Expensive if you don't watch out

I may have set myself a bit of a task here, as Val D'Isere is one of the most expensive resorts in the French Alps, but having stayed there two years running, once in a chalet and once in an appartment, I shall attempt to share some hints of how to ski in one of the best resorts in the world and not come home bankrupt. At 1850 metres, and with the heighest lift being 3550 metres, Val D'Isere has a long ski-ing season lasting from November until May. With great snow making facilities you are pretty much snow sure when the rest of Europe is suffering as it was in January of this year when I last hit the slopes. Over in Tignes, reachable by bus or lift system from Val, there is even a glacier for Summer Ski-ing! There are 2 snowparks for you boarders out there, although I really noticed a drop in popularity of boarding this year ...

Review of Val d´Isère

Val d'Isere - By far my top ski resort!

Advantages: Great ski area, great snow dec-april, fantastic lively apres ski and nightlife, beuatifully kept, clean resort
Disadvantages: Busy slopes at peak season, expensive drinks!

Fornet, which is just out of town at Le Fornet end (a 5 minute bus ride, on one of the excellent free buses which run every 5 mintes too), there are some tree runs at Le Fornet which are very pretty, however its also the most avalanche prone area when snow can get heavy December to February. The last area is at the opposite end of the town to Le Fornet and is La Daille ( you'll pass La Daille on your way into Val as it's the only way into the resort, which is basically on one long straight road). Again, this is just a 5 minute bus ride from the town centre. La Daille has its own bubble and also a train (this actually takes you right up to the same point as the Olympic bubble), it's as if they had a competition to have as many different lifts as they could in Val d'Isere and Tigne! I've never been to a resort with such a fantastic ...

Review of Val d´Isère

Val D'Isere student heaven?

Advantages: Night Life, Good for the advanced
Disadvantages: Expensive

I've been to Val D'isere on two occasions, first as a novice skier, and second as an advanced student, with many more years experience. I'll write details of the second one. Val D'Isere is one of the best resorts in France, it offers some of the best skiing to be had in Europe. Any advanced skier will know of the world famous black run (Name escapes me) It looks rather scary on the piste map, no lifts along the side, just one hut half way down. If i remember rightly its more than 15km long, and once you've started theres no going back!!!! Advanced skiers only. Enough of the chat onto details of the skiing Night Life I would rate this 9 out of 10. Not a huge amount of bars and clubs to choose from but the ones there are awesome.
