I went to Magaluf in June 2005. This was my first holiday experience without being in the company of my parents.
Me and my boyfriend arrived at the hotel after a two hour flight and a 40 minute coach journey. The hotel looked extremely minging from the outside. The Fiesta Magamar it was called. You walk in and find that there are about eight floors, there are corridors around the inside of the building with a hollow middle part. This means that you can hear everything from the top floor to the bottom reception. (The layout compared to that you would expect to see in a prison.)We went to our room and first of all looked out of the balcony, we had a great view over the mountains, from our window we could see two nearby water parks and a go-karting track. The view was slightly spoiled by a broken chair lodged in a tree below, surround by a blow up doll and a pair of lads underwear.
At this time it was roughly 7am, we decided not to sleep and to explore the town and to find some breakfast. A five minute walk took us into the main resort, filled with nightclubs, bars, great shops and all your fast food retaurants. The first thing we witnessed was a brawl in the middle of the street, we watched a 3 on 5 fight for a while and then got moved on by police. We then wandered on to the front promenade by the beach, we passed a few people covered in sand who had obviously spent their night under the stars and then came accross a pub/restaurand called the Happy House.
We had a full english bacon with real back bacon, it was gorgeous! We actually ate there a few times during the holiday, I would recommend the brandy ice-cream, yum! That day, back at the hotel we signed up for a few days/nights out with the reps. (If you go away with freestyle I would advise to only pay for the things you would really like to do as you will find there are much better options - such as the nightclub BCM which I will come to)
On the first day we went to a really big water park, I can't remember the name but there are two. It's not the Mexican style was as that is smaller for children. We also went to Pirates - always go the the uncut version. Its amazing, a load of actors dressed as pirates - prancing around jumping up walls and breathing fire! They get the audience involved which is good. You get free jugs of sangria which is better. And also really cheap jugs of vodka & cola.
We went out on a freestyle night on the main strip, It wasn't actually that good. The bar we went to was very small and crowded, no chance of getting a drink. We actually walked out and were abducted by one of the reps on the street. We haggled with them slightly and got free entry into the bar and 2 for 1 on drinks all night - always haggle. For the following few nights we went to BCM, the main nightclub in Magaluf. It costs 23 euros to get in and you get free drinks all night, thats around £15! There are also VIP bars where you can get some better drinks for cheap prices. At BCM we saw Tim Westwood - excellent beats, and also Judge Jules with some banging tunes!
On the very last night we also attended the foam party in the bar downstairs. Very, very scary. Just to warn you - if you stand in the middle under the foam tap you may die! I nearly drowned, I was just lucky that I hadn't had to much to drink and I managed to climb onto someone's shoulders so that I could breathe.Towards the end of the holiday we were pretty skint from the non-stop drinking. Just like to point out - If you want to sleep in magaluf you need to have had a skinful, the one night that we were sober we only managed to sleep for a few hours as there was so much noise in the hotel.
On the last day we managed to go go-karting which I would recommend. Use the fastest kart, which goes at about 90 kmph. They take a picture of you and give you a copy of your lap times. Good good. All together the holiday was brilliant. If you go with freestyle - don't let them rip you off, and if you do buy tickets don't lose them! They are non-refundable and they will charge you again.
If you are going as a group holiday, I would recommend it. If you are going as a couple I would recommend that you stay in the local resort of Palma Nova. It's much more sophisticated, quieter, there are nicer restaurants and it is only about 15mins away from the centre of Magaluf.
