Apartamentos Magic Monika Holidays, Benidorm

I know when writing a review one should try to be balanced and give mention of both the good and the bad and therefore this review may seem like a bit of a rant but there really was nothing or at least very, very little good to say about this hotel.

I know when writing a review one should try to be balanced and give mention of both the good and the bad and therefore this review may seem like a bit of a rant but there really was nothing or at least very, very little good to say about this hotel.

The hotel in question is the Magic Monika Holidays Aparthotel in Benidorm, Benidorm is one of my favourite holiday destinations and this hotel was so bad it went a long way to ruining my two weeks holiday. The setting of the hotel is about the only good thing about it, set in the quiet area of Cala de Finestrat and only 500metres from the white sandy beaches it gets off to a good start but it quickly goes downhill.

One of the most annoying things by far about this hotel is the fact that it is a playground to elderly Spanish couples who have no idea how to be courteous to others or how to wait their turn to be served, they feel because they are in their own country they have the right to push in front of others and they spent the entire two weeks I was there strutting about like they owned the place and to make matters worse the waiters and waitresses pandered to them.

At meals the Spanish pensioners were served first and although their tables were cleaned for them we spent most our time cleaning our own. The food was terrible and we were left wishing we had never booked all inclusive as it was a real waste of money. Although the pool area was nice and fairly spacious it too was overrun by ignorant Spanish pensioners who made the holiday virtually unbearable.

One place you could get away from the elderly Spanish mafia was of curse your own room but unfortunately the rooms were very poor and not somewhere you wanted to spend much time. They were very old fashioned and not too comfortable. The cleanliness of the hotel was ok but not brilliant; our room was regularly visited but the cleaners but never really cleaned thoroughly.

The amenities of the hotel left a lot to be desired too, there was an aerobics class that my wife had looked forward to that seemed to be permanently cancelled, a tennis court that was pretty run down, a squash court that was ok but had no air conditioning so it was almost unbearable even for the gentle tap around that me and my wife were capable for at our age and a child playground that had we had any children with us we certainly would not have allowed them to play in.
This was not the most expensive holiday I have ever booked but at just over £1000 for two weeks for my wife and I it was not exactly cheap either and I would certainly have expected more from the place.
