We bought the Tipu the Tiger Trunki for our son to take on holiday this year. We've travelled by plane before and used a childs wheeled suitcase for his bits and bobs but the Trunki provides so much more than just storage.
Before departure it's fun to let him pick his own toys/books etc to go in Trunki. I then sneak a few new activity books, stickers, toys and snacks etc in for him to discover later on. Trunki has a very good storage capacity and has some little extra features such as hidden compartmens and an elastic luggage strap to hold his toys in place. It also has a fabric pocket which runs the length of Trunki. The hidden compartments are a bit daft as they're too small to put anything in.
Trunki is also a ride-on toy that can be powered by the child propelling themselves with their feet, or the long carry strap can be unhooked at either end and used to pull the child along. It can be very difficult to steer/turn corners unless your child helps out a little while being pulled along, so is better as a self-propelled ride-on. Trunki is designed with pointy ears for the child to hold onto and a moulded back to make seating comfier.
Trunki also has two smaller carry handles so can be easily picked up, especially useful when you're in a rush or boarding planes etc! It qualifies as hand luggage size on most airlines, we've yet to be refused it as cabin luggage. It is pretty durable so I would hope it would come to no harm in an aircraft hold but I wouldn't like to guarantee that.
Once at your destination Trunki is still both a useful storage space for all toys etc while not being used and also a toy that can be ridden round any open space. You don't get that with a standard bag/case! Trunki is so appealing your child is far more likely to want to carry it themselves than leave it for you to lug around as usually happens we have discovered.
Trunki does up with a clip at each end, there is a rubber seal all the way round which makes it feel really secure. The clips are tough enough to hold together well but easy enough for our 3 year old to open on his own.
Trunki also comes with a passport which can be registered on the Trunki website. You can also download various activity sheets/tickets/travel games etc.
In all honesty this is probably the best holiday purchase we have ever made and although they aren't the cheapest bag, they're certainly worth every penny!
