First things first do not buy a brand new Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec, the £4000 depreciation in the first year is a killer, instead buy one that is 6 to 9 months old with a few thousand mile on the clock. For well under £10,000 you get a nearly new car with great spec for a reasonable price.
For under 10K you get alloy wheels, remote central locking, electric mirrors, air-con, twin air-bags, CD player, heated front windscreen and a well balanced superbly handling car. The Ford Focus handles better than 99% of the cars on the market today, the MG ZR being the only one I have experienced that is better, and so much better than Fords of old. Many will remember days out in the old Fords when the loose handling and spongy suspension was certain to bring on a bout of travel sickness amongst the passengers.

Advantages: A great car from all angles Disadvantages: Not as many extras included as I would have liked
I am now the proud owner of a ford focus 1.6 zetec and for the first time in many years I have actually found a car that pretty muc suits all my needs.
I have spent many a time in cars that are too big, too small, not suitable, not comfortable etc but this is everything I could ask for.
I own the three door version but the doors open widely and when the front seat is moved forward there is plenty of room to get anyone in the back, even my mother in law who is disabled. The back of this car is extremely spacious, comfortably fitting 3 large adults in.
The boot size is deceiving in that it looks pretty small but is very spacious indeed. Perfect for all those shopping bags as well as a childs pushchair.
The actual drive of this car is superb. Mine runs on unleaded and is very economical. I can get over 200 miles to £35 ...

I bought a second hand 51 Reg focus just over a year ago for just over 3500 and I believe it was money well spent. My focus is a 2 door hatchback and for that style of car is extreamely spacious in the cabin and especially the boot which is ideal for the missus shopping trips and my cricket bag. The 1.6 zetec I have is very quick compared to other 1.6 engines even tho the car is quite large. I have had no problems with the car since I purchased it. The focus drives very smoothly and has enough power behind it when needed although I would recommend not going less than 1.6 on the focus due to the weight/power ratio. Inside of the focus is a little plastic looking and somewhat basic but the top end versions have enough gadgets to keep up with most new cars. ...
