If it's a cliche to dislike your home town then I think I'm gonna have to break the mould. Of course it has its bad points as does any town but all in all it's not a bad place to live. Okay so let's do a quick tour.
PLACES TO VISIT : Maidstone is really not a bad place for shopping - Week Street and High Street offer the main chain stores such as HMV, Woolworths etc. but go into the little side streets and you get many specialist shops selling all manner of interesting bits and pieces - for this try the Royal Star Arcade and the Corn Exchange. Other than shopping Maidstone has a large cinema complex, bowling, loads of pubs and restaurants, a leisure centre with gym facilities, a large, attractive park, a TV studios - basically a wide range of stuff to do. However, if you do find yourself getting bored Maidstone is in a great position - just 40 miles from London and near enough to the coast without being tacky. It is surrounded by picturesque villages and Kentish countryside and efforts are made every year to make the town look attractive with flowers and the legendary flower sheep. The town centre is generally not bad looking and the outskirts of town are home to some extremely nice properties.
PLACES TO AVOID : If you can avoid the town on a Saturday themn do so as you'll be surrounded by mums and prams and foul mouthed 13 year old boys who think they're extremely hard because 15 of them can beat up one person. Their main haunts are Gabriels Hill, the bottom of Week Street outside Burger King and Brenchley Gardens which is also home to winos and drugs. I'm sorry if this all sounds aa bit threatening but tourists need to be informed - however Maidstone is one of the safest place to live in the Uk and that's official - the town is literally covered in CCTV cameras so criminals are often deterred. Since I've lived here I can remember only a handful of serious crimes - other bad areas of Maidstone include Tovil, Mangravet and Shepway but for every one of these there is Hollingbourne, Bearsted or East Farleigh - like all towns there are places not to go but that doesn't make it any less nice.
Basically Maidstone isn't so bad at all. To be honest it's hardly the sort of place you'd visit internationally but it's woth a look. The town will soon be undergoing a major change, particularly down by the river with the opening of the new Fremlins centre and the demolition of the eyesore that is the Trebor Factory will hopefully make a big difference to what is a wasted feature of a town. Anyway, I love my town

Didn't mean the single mothers comment disrespectfully - but in Maidstone it's jsut a commone problem to be adept at pram dodging as believe me Maidstone must have the highest concentration of 14 year old single mothers. However, I will cahnge that part of the opinion as I know it may cause offence as it clearly has.
