First things first, Majestyk is not as huge as people seem to think it is – it’s a sort of big, sweaty pit, which is all very well if you like that kind of thing. For some completely unknown reason Majestyk has a huge domed roof with a really elaborate mural on it, which I tend to think is wasted on Leeds clubbers, but never mind. There are three bars in the main room and if you’re lucky enough to be there on a night the upstairs is open, there’s yet another bar up there. The fact that there are so many places to get your hands on booze in this place pretty much tells you how to make the most of your Majestyk experience – get so drunk you fail to notice its shortcomings.
And get drunk you will. The special offers in Majestyk are great! Their mid-week student nights are the ideal time to go, with amazing offers on drinks (60p a pint, etc.) and not much of a charge to get in in the first place. These mid-week nights are arguably the most fun night out in Leeds for people who don’t take their clubbing seriously. If you (like me) can’t think of anything better than getting seriously drunk and letting your hair down to the dulcet tones of the Jackson Five or boogying on down to "Build me up Buttercup", you will have the time of your life bopping in Majestyk with all us stoodents.
Another aspect of Majestyk that definitely deserves a mention is the entertainment they put on. Ok, ok, it sounds unbelievably cheesy having a stage show in a nightclub, but honestly, it’s hilarious! Think crazy folk in tacky 70’s dress, doing bizarre dance routines, calling people up on to the stage for ritual humiliation and “games” which involve the removal of clothes and not much else, and the giving out of free bottles of “champagne” (for champagne, read cheap sparkling wine.).
During the week, it usually costs less than a fiver to get into Majestyk, which is fabulous value for money considering how cheap the drinks are, how great the entertainment is and how, well, stunning all us Leeds students are!! Their weekend nights aren't quite as fun as the mid-week ones in my humble opinion - Friday is school disco night (which isn't as good as it sounds - it's usually people who have actually come straight from school!) and Saturdays are usually over 21s, and being a good girl I've never been to one (I'm only 19!!).
All in all, Majestyk is a great student night out – ridiculously cheap drinks, lots of other drunken students, a cheesy music policy, nudity, and the chance of free bottles of “champagne”! Who could ask for anything more?
Advantages: Massive and amazing lasers Disadvantages: Can get very crowded on the dancefloor, even when the rest of the club is empty
...banners hanging outside. Majestyk used to be a bingo hall and the main room is absolutely humongous. The dancefloor is situated in the centre of the club with the DJ booth postioned at the far end of it. There are plenty of platforms around to prance about on but the dancefloor does get very crowded, which can be rather annoying when you are trying to get down to your favourite tune. The sound and lighting on the dancefloor are both very good, the ... ...to the toilet. Majestyk is open Tuesday to Saturday and they often have special events on Bank Holiday Sunday's, such as Back 2 Basics and they hosted a Sugar Shack / Union special with Paul Oakenfold and Timo Mass last October. Tuesday to Thursday are student nights with quite cheap drinks and is simply the place to be on a Tuesday if you are in the first year. The entrance is about £3 with NUS, but they are often flyering in the local area and ...

Advantages: Fashionable club, large, good DJ's and music Disadvantages: Suffers from the same fate as other clubs i.e. a lot of people there are big heads, expensive drinks, toilets in unfit state towards end of night
...and full of attitude. Was Majestyk any different?
Last weekend I went up to Leeds to visit a friend, who is working there in his year out from University. I was aware that the night life in Leeds is supposed to be one of the best in the country, and everyone I spoke to, said that I should visit Majestyk. It came as little surprise when my friend suggested that we went there!
So what do you get? Well, Majestyk is probably Leeds’ most well ... ...floor - and even when you get it, you can be sure that some arrogant, drunk idiot will push you out of the way! However, that said I did enjoy my night a great deal, and Majestyk wasn’t as cliched as some of the other clubs I have been to! ...

...station and the bus stops, majestyk can only be described as a super club. The place is MASSIVE and could be filled twice over on any given night so get there early.
Underneath majestyk and a good place to start the night is Jumping Jaks. Open earlier than majestik you pay £3 NUS £4 otherwise to get in (that includes entry to majestik). Smaller, easier to get to the bar and good music means that Jumping Jaks provides the ideal build up to a big ... ...way through the double doors at the back and prepare yourself for what lies ahead.
The first thing you will notice is a small food counter, you may thing this is a good idea but don't fall into the trap and buy something because its NASTY and way overpriced, so instead of spending your taxi money on a nasty burger save it for one of the tastier take outs located nearby.
The next thing you will see is the HUGE dance floor, with the combination of ...

Advantages: guarenteed shag Disadvantages: you're likely to catch an STD (and thats just from the toilet seat!)
Majestyks has got to be by far the worst club i have ever been unfotunate enough to set foot in and believe me i have been to some real dives in my time!
The place is basically set out as a pervy old mans paradise. The average age of customers is somewhere around 15. The girls are generally pissed up slappers and the blokes hang out in packs in identical shirts.
If you are on a night out in Leeds i recommend you go anywhere but here - the train ...

Advantages: Very big and reasonable price Disadvantages: Need to get there early if a stag party
May i just say that i visited Majestics last weekend as part of a Stag Night. It's an excellent club. cost was only £6 which i thought was very reasonable for a Saturday night. the music was excellent with a full range of tastes catered for. For any prospetive stag nights in Leeds i suggest you do what we did. Get there early (opens at 10pm). I think they smaller the que to less choosey they are about who they let in. We staggered our entry inot ... ...in without a problem. If you havn't been there it is huge, with about 3 floors of balconies over looking the dance floor. These areas are good to chill out in as you are able to chat to friends without having to shout. Don't know if it was our luck but there seemed to be alot of hen parties there aswell. I would definatley recommend this club. Worth a visit even if you are not from Leeds. We travelled from Norwich, London, Oxford together with some ...

Advantages: Friendly crowd getting down to great music Disadvantages: Can get too hot and crowded
parties at the massive Majestyk in Leeds and they often have tents at all the major dance festivals. They have recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary with a pyjama party, with no other than the legendary Carl Cox on the decks and the night is famed for for it's up for it crowd and the fact that it usually gets rather messy, can't go wrong really. Funkywormhole offers everything in the way of funk, from the 70's through to today and has only just recently moved to the Mint from the Wardrobe.
The club is open til gone 4am on both nights, often carrying on til there is no-one left standing (6 finishes are common). The drinks are quite expensive and as this is a small club it often gets very crowded and hot, but the crowd are always friendly, whichever night you go on and you are always guaranteed a good time at the Mint. ...
Advantages: Best city in England. It's in Yorkshire, fab entertainments, something for everyone to do, see and enjoy. Plus, I was born there! Disadvantages: Ey, let's not be starting on my hometown now, ok!?
the olden times, used as, erm, a corn exchange, it is now home to some of Leeds more, shall we say, niche market stores, including tarot readers, palmists, magic shops, clothing stores and the fabulous condom shop (wiggglypufff take note!). The Centre is designed in such a way that you can walk from one end to the other within ten minutes, but to really explore will take hours. Fab.
I have touched upon Leeds nightlife, and with clubs like Majestyk and Uropa for all you dance fans, The Cockpit for us indie, rock and metal kids, and the Observatory for fans of unadulterated cheese, there's something for everyone. And if you can't find what you're after, just go to Heaven and Hell - 3 floors, 3 different types of music. Many of the city's pubs and bars are open till at least midnight, or 2o'clock for some of the better ones, so a late night drink ...

can drink for £10" night on a Monday - carnage is the only possible way to describe it.
CREATION - Once student heaven, Creation now seems to struggle to tempt the student population into its gigantic club. With great mid-week nights, but awful weekend ones, Creation seems to have lost a little of its sparkle recently.
MAJESTYK - Leeds' former answer to the "superclub", Majestyk is very difficult to miss opposite the city train station. It's a big sweaty pit, with fantastic drinks offers and good mid-week nights. Those who are into their chart music stars will love this place - on Saturday nights they often play host to characters such as Girls Aloud (oh dear!) and Lemar.
HALO - A new club, near the University of Leeds, built in a church. Enough said.
